Highly recommended tour of Spice Farm Plantation and Stone Town - I highly recommend this tour. Our guide, Masoud, was excellent, very knowledgeable about the spices and Stone Town. We signed up for the afternoon tour, since we arrived at Zanzibar from the mainland in the morning. First we toured the spice farm. It was very interesting and Masoud was very engaging and explained all the details about the spices. Then, we took a walking tour of Stone Town. Again, very informative and interesting. I can't think of a better and more enjoyable way to understand the history of Zanzibar than to take this tour. Thank you, Masoud!

Informative walking tour! - Masoud gave us a great walking tour of Stone Town. He provided us with a very helpful introduction to the area, showed us the highlights, and provided lots of background information that we wouldn’t otherwise have known about that helped us to appreciate and better understand the sights. This is wonderful way to start your trip to Zanzibar!

Awesome way to see Stone Town incl. Small streets and non-touristy area - First of all, thank you Masoud for the very nice guiding through city and the spice farm. We were having a very good time, however beforehand had some issues with traffic to get to stone town, so I highly recommend to provide your mobile phone number, or to contact Masoud directly via +255 772 777 297 so you can discuss about transportation (Masoud can also organize transport, we did not see that beforehand). In fact the tour was so good and we had the feeling that we could spend a little bit more time in stone town so we came back and booked some additional time with Masoud as a guide. We saw the harbour, the markets, small streets, nice doors, the former slave market, all with a very good guide and a lot of information. We can only highly recommend to take some time with Masoud and let him show you a different view from stone town. Thanks for the awesome time! :) Best regards Lena & Marc

Great way to experience understand of the most important aspects of Zanzibar: the spice trade and Stone Town! - Masoud provided a great tour! We began with an excellent visit to Kizimbani Farms where we tried to guess spices and were able to sample some of the Zanzibar products made from those spices. And we enjoyed fresh and thirst-clenching coconut at the end of the visit. After, we enjoyed a leisurely but yet complete walk and tour of stone town including (1) Old Slave Market / Anglican Cathedral and the East African Slave Trade Exibition, where we learned about the villains and heroes of this terrible era in Zanzibar’s history, (2) Darajani Bazaar, where we saw fish auctions, bought some Zanzibar cinnamon, and sampled and learned how to finish peeling fresh roasted cashews, (3) Stone Town touring and shopping, where we learned about the construction and ongoing preservation of this city of coral, and enjoyed beautiful panoramic views of the area and took a break, (4) Freddie Mercury Museum, where we learned about the most iconic rock star from Zanzibar and his later investments on the island, and (5) Old Fort, where we learned about the Portuguese history of Zanzibar. Masoud was an excellent guide!

Adventures with Masudy - The morning started off arriving at the spice farm, where we got to meet Masudy! A friendly face, a personality to match and most of all a proud Zanzibari! Our senses got to experience the delights of fruits and spices as we guessed our way through lemon grass, nutmeg and many more! From the spice farm we hit the road to Stone Town, where we explored the history behind Zanzibars past, although sad, we very enlightened by Masudy's extensive knowledge and passion in sharing the stories and truths of a life once lived. Our final stop was a brief boat ride across the sea to Prison Island. Masudy took us through its inception and a few close ups with the resident tortoises, some of which are a few hundred years old! A huge shout out to Masudy and what he does in brining his home to life! It was a true pleasure spending the day with him as we took on the adventures of Zanzibar!

It doesn't get any better! - We did the above-mentioned tour on a very hot day during Ramadan. Hats off to Masoud and Yusuf, who accompanied us to the spice farm and then to and through Stonetown in a relaxed manner without drinking. The information during the trip about Zanzibar, life, religion and conditions made the journey pass quickly and was mostly new to us. Masoud knew what each spice was best used for. Not just in the kitchen, but also in medicine. He knew so much that our memory was exhausted at some point. Our tip for the spice farm: definitely do it, even if you embarrass yourself when you smell the spices and you only get it right every now and then. It's best to wear flip-flops in case it rains (pours). In Stonetown we were very happy that Masoud was our 'walking GPS', without him we would have gotten lost and walked past a lot of things. He was also a walking history encyclopedia on the city tour. The horror of slavery was almost real, as he described it. With great ease, he led us to the roof terrace in one hotel to enjoy the great view and panoramic view, and in another hotel he explained the special features of the building. Our tip for Stonetown: definitely do it. Masoud adapts the pace to his guests and has an answer to every question. Opinions differ when it comes to footwear. For me, the flip-flops were good, for my husband it had to be sneakers. Conclusion: The spice farm and Stonetown tour with Masoud is absolutely recommendable!
