Highlights
  • Stone Town - I would be delighted to guide you through this cultural city and showcase all that the stone city has to offer. The Old Town is the historic heart of Zanzibar City, the capital of the Zanzibar Islands.

As a significant trading hub for spices, silk, and the slave trade for over a thousand years, the Old City has been a unique crossroads, merging African, Indian, Arab, and European cultures. It stands as one of the few remaining ancient cities in Africa.

Its charm and historical significance have earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

This city is not only visually stunning, with old colonial buildings and intricately carved Zanzibari doors, but it also engages your senses with the scent of the sea, perfumes, and the calls to prayer from the minarets.

  • The Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe) - The oldest building in Stone Town, dating back to around 1560. Today, it largely reflects the period of Zanzibar’s occupation by the Yaarubi, who expelled the Portuguese from the island after capturing Mombasa, effectively ending Portuguese colonialism. It also offers insights into the Portuguese occupation until the Omanis took over in 1698.
  • Forodhani Gardens - The park becomes very lively after sunset, as both tourists and locals gather at the popular street food market in the main square to enjoy delicious Kiswahili and Zanzibari dishes such as grilled seafood, samosas, cassava, and sweet potatoes.
  • Darajani Bazaar - Travelers visiting Darajani Market in Zanzibar will immerse themselves in a bustling market atmosphere. They’ll witness vibrant displays of fresh produce, spices, seafood, clothing, and crafts. They can interact with local vendors, sample traditional foods, and shop for unique items. It’s a lively and authentic experience showcasing Zanzibar’s local culture and flavors.
  • People’s Palace Museum - Visitors to the Palace Museum in Zanzibar will explore the Sultan’s historical residence, learn about Zanzibar’s royal past and cultural heritage through artifacts and exhibits, and may experience interactive elements like traditional music or craft demonstrations. It’s a rich and immersive journey into the island’s history and culture.
  • Christ Church Cathedral - The guide will take you to the site where the slave market once stood, now occupied by the church. Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.
  • Freddie Mercury Museum - Visitors to the Freddie Mercury Museum in Stone Town, Zanzibar, will delve into the life and legacy of the iconic musician. They’ll see personal belongings, memorabilia, and artifacts related to Freddie Mercury’s career and Zanzibari heritage. The museum offers insights into his journey from Zanzibar to global stardom with Queen, celebrating his impact on music and culture.

Great explanations, he knows very well the History, great city's tour, super friendly, and he was taking his time to answer to all my questions and to explain me even more. He is really generous. Best guide in Stonetown - We had Ahmad explained to us the history of Zanzibar. How Zanzibar started and the various population and tribes and influence of this Island. We visited many places and told us which architecture we could see and how to distinguish between Arabic, Indian or Portuguese structure. Ahmad knows very well what he is talking about and seems passionate and keen to share the culture of his beautiful island. Most recommended 😉 you will never be disappointed.

It's all that's right. He waited for our arrival, since we had a fairly significant delay. He took us to all the places - The city is amazing, the history, the culture, its religion. We walked through the streets and the best-known spots. The views were amazing

Fun and laughter will be had. - I was in a group of 7 that did the Dolphin, Kuza Cave, Paje Beach, The Rock Restaurant, and Jozani Forest Tour with Abdul and Abdalla. Here's the key to taking any tour: don't be a stick in the mud! These young guides know their home and tour locations, but how boring is it to just passively sit there and act formal and only ask an occasional question? They're people that want to have fun and share the joy of their home country. When you come out of your shell, they'll come out of theirs and fun will be had, which is what happened with us. We had these guys dying with laughter with our goofiness. Just look at the pictures and see how happy they were. Abdalla is a natural jokester anyway. Abdul was in our vehicle and is clearly very well informed. All the attractions filled 11 hours of the day, perfectly spread out with delicious food and a magnificent view at The Rock Restaurant for lunch. I didn’t want the day to end and say goodbye. Look how happy we all were when they dropped us off. This day with Abdul and Abdalla will be a cherished memory of Zanzibar. Thanks fellas.

Ahmad is a great storyteller and time flies by on a walking tour with him! - Ahmad was such a wonderful guide and I thoroughly enjoyed his walking tour of Zanzibar. Due to a last-minute issue at the hotel it took us 30 minutes extra to reach the location during which he patiently waited for us. After that he took his time to tell us stories about the history of Zanzibar before walking us to the main sites and gave us ample time to look around. He pointed out little details such as the carving on the doors and told us about their meanings. Our visit of the market was super interesting too and we took our time to observe and buy stuff before moving on. The alleyways of Zanzibar are so beautiful and reminded me of my time in Rome and Florence. Ahmad spent far longer with us than the 2.5 hrs promised and left us at a wonderful restaurant where we could eat local food. He also communicated with our driver to tell him where to pick us up from because it was easier for him to explain than us. Overall, I loved the walk and would highly recommend it to everyone. Ahmad’s storytelling and service gets a 11 on 10 from me!
