- Stone Town - Begin your journey from Bagamoyo or Dar es Salaam and take a ferry to Stone Town for a walking tour with our expert guides. The tour lasts about 3 hours, allowing you to delve into the rich history of this unique site, known for having some of the narrowest streets in the world. As a cosmopolitan archipelago, Stone Town boasts a fascinating blend of Indian, Chinese, Omani Arab, Phoenician, Sumerian, Persian, Assyrian, Portuguese, Egyptian, Dutch, and British cultures, all intertwined with traditional African customs. The Arab influence is particularly evident in the urban design and architecture, with the most notable residential structures being the large Arab houses with central courtyards, built around the 19th century. Stone Town is a vibrant mix of cultures and is home to more than 49 mosques, 2 Christian churches, 2 cinemas, 6 banks, 4 Hindu temples, numerous shops, and supermarkets. However, many buildings are in need of repair, and some have already collapsed.
- Zanzibar Spice Tour - Next, board a private air-conditioned minibus to the spice farm for a tour that explains why Zanzibar is known as the Spice Island. Located about half an hour’s drive from historic Stone Town, this tour, led by our knowledgeable and experienced guides, will teach you about the life cycle and uses of various spices, tropical fruits, and root crops. You’ll also get to experience the typical environment of Zanzibar and village life. The tour includes visits to historical sites such as the Maruhubi Palace ruins, Kidichi Persian bath, and the highest point in Zanzibar, which is 390 feet above sea level. You can touch, smell, and taste the spices in the plantations, ask questions, or request stops if you see anything interesting along the way.
- Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park - Zanzibar’s first and only national park is centered around Jozani Forest, the largest area of mature forest in Zanzibar. It is home to the rare Red Colobus Monkeys, mangrove forests, and salt marshes. Zala Park, a small nature reserve within the park, features captive animal exhibits including tree hyraxes and a variety of reptiles such as green tree snakes, mambas, large pythons, chameleons, geckos, tortoises, striped lizards, and monitor lizards. After the tour, you will be transferred back to your cruise.
