Private Food Tour of Taipei - We had a great time on this food tour in Taipei. We had so many tastings and stops that we actually had to say we couldn't do another one! We had interesting foods, some that we did not have a chance to try before the tour. It is definitely worth doing!

Great food and a great host! - Local food with Jones our brilliant local guide. Highly recommended. We only had a couple of days in Taiwan and really wanted to try the local food. Most menus are in Taiwanese which makes it very tricky to choose food on your own. However this tour with the lovely Jones solved everything. He was a first class host…on time and attentive to all our needs. He took us to 10 different food outlets… none of which we would have found on our own. The food was delicious ……and in the end we needed to be to rolled home! If you only have a short stay in Taipei and want to try local food….I would definitely recommend this tour.

A great tour! - My husband and I love doing food tours when we get to a new city, and this one was fantastic! Jones, our guide, made it feel like we were catching up with a friend. He was very communicative before the tour and asked about dietary restrictions/avoidances. The tour is absolutely catered to you. He took us to places we would have never found on our own nor would have ventured to. We read reviews to come hungry, and we still could barely manage all the food! You do walk from place to place, but it was nice to stretch our legs between meals.

Amazing night!! - Judy was the perfect guide for our tour of Taipei and its diverse and culturally vibrant food scene. Her knowledge and passion for this tour was evident throughout the night. It was the perfect way to begin our stay in Taipei, as she provided us with a blueprint for the different foods and neighborhoods (and the food we tried was AMAZING!). Thank you Judy for a very memorable night!!

So Much Good Food, Not Enough Stomach Space - I enjoy food tours because not only do you experience local foods, but you also get a glimpse into the area and into the local's lives. Jones was my guide, and he led me though main and side streets of Taipei to sample several wonderful Taiwanese foods. If there were foods I didn't think I would like or if I wanted to switch from savory to sweet, he was flexible to find another establishment. As we walked from place to place, Jones would share stories about Taipei, the local area, and culuture. I felt like I was talking with an old friend whose main goals were to share his neighborhood, the foods they create, and to send me home with a full belly - he accomplished all three.

Wonderful !!! - Judy was a most excellent guide. She showed us the market and explained all of the offerings available. Definitely a great tour and introduction to all of the delicacies around. Everything was explained and we had a wonderful time. She is a great addition to the Viator team. It seems that all of the other reviewers agree with me too.

Great Food Tour Experience - Jones met me as scheduled. He was most congenial and very knowledgeable. As we walked from tasting to tasting, he provided colorful descriptions of the restaurants we were to visit which included their history and fame. As we stopped at each restaurant, Jones suggested dishes I might want to try based on my preferences which I had shared with him earlier. At the end of the tour, which lasted a bit more than 3 hours (he didn't rush from tasing to tasting), I had experienced the 10 tastings promised, stopped and purchased some mementos for my grandchildren, and was escorted by Jones to the metro line where I boarded a train heading north to my next adventure. I highly recommend Jones to anyone who wants a great local guide with deep knowledge of the area's culture and food offerings.

Not actually customizable - Giving 2 stars because the guide seemed to really try, but was more of a general guide than equipped to do private food tour. The tour guide was very friendly, and clearly wanted me to be satisfied, but my primary reason for booking the tour was to try more adventurous, authentic Taiwanese food than what was offered on the available group tours. I very clearly explained my intentions when booking the tour and asked them to have me cancel if they would not be able to meet them. Instead of providing much guidance, we wandered around, and he offered to let me try things, but this included Thai food, Indonesian, food, and Japanese food, with few specific recommendations, mostly asking me what I wanted to try whenI had told them the whole reason I was booking this tour is because I did not have time to do my own research. I felt a bit like I was leading the tour, rather than there being any definitive plan. This tour seemed less “customizable“ and more that they have a set format which breaks down if you make special requests. If you do book this tour, I highly recommend going earlier in the day, as I chose the 5 PM timeslot and the first location we went to was 80% closed/sold out, and we ate at one of the two remaining Taiwanese places open in the food court. The second location had a festival going on, and instead of diverting, most of the places that were pointed out as “this place is very famous for…” but were deemed too busy to be able to eat at because of the festival. I ended up staying afterwards and waiting in these cues, most of which were only 5 to 10 minutes so that I could try the foods. I feel like if there had been a set plan instead of randomly wandering for most of the tour, we would’ve been able to accommodate these spots, no problem. Overall, I recommend this tour if you need someone to order for you, but save your money if you are actually looking for guidance.
