A Day in Zipaquirá - We had a day to ourselves in Bogota before our guided trip started, so we booked a tour to the Salt Cathedral. Our guide Camilla and her driver picked us up at the hotel and drove us to Zipaquirá. During the ride (about an hour and a half) our guide pointed out sites and talked about life in Columbia but best of all she played samples of traditional Columbian music and told us about some of the rhythms and their history. The Salt Cathedral has it's own guides and ours was in Spanish. Camilla did an excellent job of translating and giving us additional information about the history of the salt mine and the building of the cathedral. Afterwards, we visited the above ground Diocesan Cathedral of Zipaquirá. It had beautiful terracotta stone columns. Then we walked over to La Puerta Falsa for a "snack". We sampled tamals and hot chocolate with cheese and bread in it (a Bogota specialty). The portions were very generous. We had a great time and enjoyed getting to know a lovely Columbiana.

Excellent! - I toured the Zipaquirá Salt Mine with Hansa Tours and it was an amazing experience. Our Guide, Juan Peralta, was truly exceptional: very knowledgeable, attentive and always willing to answer any questions. He explained the history of the mine in a clear and entertaining way, which made the whole tour fascinating. In addition, his energy and charisma made us feel very comfortable throughout the trip. I highly recommend Hansa Tours.
