A Journey Through Time and Tradition

Our adventure began in the heart of Bilbao, a city that pulses with life and culture. But as we embarked on the Greater Bilbao Route, I was reminded of the rich tapestry of history and tradition that lies just beyond the city limits. Our first stop was the charming town of Barakaldo, where the kids were immediately captivated by the stories of its industrial past. The guide was fantastic, weaving tales that brought the town’s history to life in a way that was both engaging and educational for the little ones.

As we continued our journey along the Nervión estuary, we found ourselves in Santurce, a town steeped in maritime tradition. The Santurtzi Itsasoa Museoa was a highlight for us, offering a hands-on experience that allowed the kids to explore the maritime heritage of the region. They were thrilled to learn about the fishing industry and even got to try their hand at some traditional Basque activities. It was a perfect blend of fun and learning, and I could see their imaginations running wild as they soaked up the stories of the sea.

Crossing the Iconic Vizcaya Bridge

One of the most memorable parts of our journey was crossing the iconic Bizkaia Suspension Bridge in Portugalete. The kids were in awe as we ascended to the top, taking in the breathtaking views from 50 meters above the estuary. It was a thrilling experience, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder as we crossed the estuary on the historic bridge. The combination of engineering marvel and stunning scenery made it a moment to remember.

After crossing the bridge, we found ourselves in the picturesque Puerto Viejo de Algorta. The narrow streets and charming architecture transported us back in time, and the kids loved exploring the quaint alleys and discovering hidden corners. It was a delightful place to wander, and we took our time soaking in the atmosphere and enjoying the local flavors.

Nature’s Grandeur at Punta Galea

Our final stop was the breathtaking cliffs of Punta Galea, where we were treated to panoramic views of the Cantabrian Sea and the El Abra Superport. The kids were mesmerized by the dramatic landscape, and it was a wonderful opportunity to teach them about the natural beauty of the region. We spent some time exploring the area, taking in the fresh sea air and marveling at the rugged cliffs.

As we made our way back to Bilbao, I reflected on the day’s adventure.
