Casablanca / Rabat

Hassan II Mosque - Upon arrival at Casablanca airport, our driver will greet you with a sign bearing your name. As we drive through Casablanca, you’ll see the port city and commercial hub of western Morocco along the Atlantic Ocean. In this charming city, you’ll visit the Hassan II Mosque, the second-largest functioning mosque in Africa and the seventh-largest in the world. We’ll then continue to the famous Rick’s Cafe, mentioned in the movie “Casablanca.” Our journey will then take us to Rabat, the administrative capital of Morocco.

Rabat / Ouazzane / Chefchaouen

Kasbah des Oudaias - After breakfast at your hotel riad, you’ll start exploring the city with our knowledgeable local guide. You’ll visit the Kasbah des Oudaias and its beautiful Andalusian gardens, located at the mouth of the Abu Regrag river. Originally built in the 12th century by the Almohad dynasty, you’ll also see the incomplete Hassan Tower mosque, another main attraction built by the same dynasty in the 12th century, just a few meters from the mausoleum of Mohamed V and Hassan II with its stunning architecture. We’ll then drive towards Chefchaouen, the blue pearl of Morocco, via Moulay Bousselham and Ouazzane, crossing the beautiful Rif mountains. The drive will mostly be through the countryside, where you’ll be amazed by the authentic villages. There will be time for photo stops and lunch along the way. We’ll arrive in Chefchaouen in the late afternoon.

Explore Chefchaouen

Chefchaouen Medina - After breakfast at your hotel riad, you’ll start exploring the medina and its alleys in Chefchaouen, the blue city of Morocco. The town is filled with cobalt-stained streets set amid the majestic Rif mountains with a rich history. Established in 1471 by Moulay Ali Ben Rachid, Moorish and Jewish settlers fled here to escape the Reconquista of Spain. This visually stimulating town will enchant you with its alleyways of a hundred different blue hues.

Visiting the Kasbah
The Kasbah is a historic fortress located in the main square, Place Outa el Hammam. Inside, you’ll find a beautiful garden and a small museum showcasing local artifacts. Climb the towers for panoramic views.

Explore the Plaza Uta el-Hammam
This lively square is the social hub of Chefchaouen. It’s a great spot to relax, enjoy some traditional Moroccan food at a café, and people-watch. The square is surrounded by cafes, shops, and historical buildings.

Chefchaouen / Volubilis / Meknes / Fes

Volubilis - After breakfast at the hotel riad, you’ll head towards the Roman ruins of Volubilis, where you’ll have the opportunity to visit some interesting historical sites. After driving through the foothills of the Rif mountains, you’ll arrive at the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a preserved Roman empire dating back to 225 BC. Here, you’ll see the most beautiful mosaics in Morocco, dating back to the 3rd century BC. A guided tour of the site is included and will enhance your knowledge of the Roman empire. We’ll then continue to Meknes, the Ismaili capital of the 17th century, where you’ll see the gate of Bab Mansour, built by Sultan Moulay Ismail during the 17th century. You’ll also visit a granary and the Sahrij Souani, used for irrigation and planting. We’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant before heading to Fes.

Explore Fes

Fes el-Bali - Today, you’ll start exploring Fes, the spiritual city of Morocco. You’ll embark on an adventure through the intellectual capital of Morocco. Fes is the country’s cultural capital, primarily known for its Fes El Bali, or walled medina. We’ll start outside the medina to see the royal palace gate, then walk through the Jewish quarter or “the mellah,” the first Jewish quarter ever built in the country. Following that, you’ll enter the medina, where you’ll spend the entire morning visiting sites of cultural and historical interest, including the famous Medrasa Bouanania, the Karaouine mosque and university, the oldest university in the world built by a woman, the famous tanneries, and the Najjarine fountain. You’ll then head to one of the fortresses for an amazing panoramic view of the whole medina of Fes, followed by a visit to the pottery area to see the pottery cooperative.

Fes / Merzouga

Cedar Forest - You’ll be picked up from your accommodation in Fes and start traveling southeast to Merzouga. The first stop will be in Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture and nearby slopes and forests. The second stop will be at the cedar forest in Azrou to see Barbary apes. We’ll pass many traditional Berber villages where you can interact with local inhabitants. Throughout this journey, you’ll be amazed by the stunning contrast in landscapes, covering diverse terrains. We’ll stop for lunch at a time of your choosing. As we continue south, the scenery becomes especially beautiful where the Ziz valley meets the High Atlas Mountains, creating a breathtaking gorge. Our drive will include several stops for photographs and will continue through welcoming Berber villages to Erfoud and Rissani, the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty.

Merzouga Area and Camel Trek

Merzouga Desert - After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll start an explorative journey of the area. We’ll begin the day with Gnawa music at the village of Khamliya, 7 kilometers south of Merzouga, a small desert village with a big story. Its inhabitants are direct descendants of slaves brought from Sudan. You’ll enjoy their music and lifestyle. You may also visit the souk of Rissani if you’re there on the right day, as the souk takes place three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, where locals come to trade necessary goods.

In the afternoon, you’ll start a guided camel ride, led by an experienced camel man, to explore and enjoy the sand sea of Erg Chebbi. The camel man will ensure you have the chance to watch what may be the best sunset of your lifetime. Overnight accommodations will be at a desert luxury camp equipped with flush toilets and hot showers, where you’ll be served dinner and breakfast.

Merzouga / Todra Gorges / Dades Valley

Dades Gorges - Today, your camel man will wake you up to watch a beautiful sunrise, where you’ll see the sunshine cover the small golden sand dunes of Merzouga and the rocky barren Sahara Desert. After breakfast at the camp, you’ll trek back by camel, or if you prefer, you can opt for a 4-wheel drive back from the camp. You’ll then head to the Dades Valley for another excellent day. First, you’ll visit the Todra Gorges, the highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco, where you might have the chance to hike for an hour. After lunch, the drive continues to the Dades Valley, where you’ll be amazed by the beauty of the town, including the rock formations known as “monkey toes” and the sand castles that cover the area.

Dades Valley / Skoura / Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah / Imlil High Atlas Mountain

Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll start driving to see one of the 17th-century Kasbahs still standing at the oases of Skoura, a great symbol of the region, the famous Kasbah of Amridil. We’ll continue to Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa,” whose geography and beautiful landscapes have attracted many world-class movie producers. Here, you may choose to visit the studios containing props used in movies you may have seen, such as The Mummy and Gladiator. We’ll continue to the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. Built by Et Hami El Glaoui, one of the last Berber chieftains in the 18th century, it now houses many Glaoui people. Your journey will continue through the majestic Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m) over the High Atlas Mountains. We’ll continue our drive, passing by the Berber villages of Tahnaout and Asni on our way to Imlil.

Exploring the Imlil Area and Departure to Marrakech

Imlil - After breakfast at the Kasbah, you’ll embark on an explorative journey of the area, enjoying the Berber culture. You’ll have the option to hike for a few hours within the valley and take in the fascinating views over the highest peak in North Africa. You’ll also walk to the village of Aroumd, a small Berber village with a strong culture. In the afternoon, you’ll head to Marrakech.

Explore Marrakech

Marrakech - After breakfast at your hotel riad, our knowledgeable local guide will meet you in the hotel lobby to start exploring Marrakech, a former imperial city in western Morocco. Marrakech is a major economic center and home to mosques, palaces, and gardens. It is a densely packed walled medieval city dating back to the 12th century of the Berber Empire. The local guide will ensure you see most of the sites of historical and cultural interest, including the Saadian tombs, the Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Quranic School, Koutoubia Mosque, and the famous Jemaa El-Fna Square. Lunch will be around the area in one of the recommended restaurants, before driving to the new city to visit the beautiful Majorelle Gardens, including a short drive through the new city.

Marrakech to Essaouira

Essaouira - After a luxurious breakfast at the riad, you’ll start traveling to Essaouira, enjoying the views along the way. As we travel to Essaouira, a more laid-back town on the coast, we’ll make several stops for pictures. Since this is the land of Argan culture, you’ll have the opportunity to visit a women’s cooperative where they extract Argan oil, famous for its culinary, cosmetic, and medicinal properties. In Essaouira, you’ll visit the Skala Fortress, the port, the souks, and see Thuya wood carved by artisans. You’ll walk through the alleys of the medina and view hundreds of handicrafts.

Exploring Essaouira and Return to Casablanca

Essaouira Ramparts - After breakfast at your riad, you’ll start exploring the city. You’ll visit the Skala Fortress, the port, the souks, and see Thuya wood carved by artisans. You’ll walk through the alleys of the medina and view hundreds of handicrafts. Essaouira is known for its strong winds most of the year, earning it the nickname “City of the Wind,” attracting surfers from all over the world. Essaouira has seen many civilizations, including Portuguese occupation, which influences much of its architecture. Despite its history, it remains a small village with much charm. Its characteristic blue doors and washed walls have earned it the title of Morocco’s “Jewel of the Atlantic.” Your visit includes the Mellah, the Jewish quarter, and the beach. There is an annual festival of “Gnawa music,” where many musical groups come from different parts of Africa and the world. Around 4 pm, we’ll head back to Casablanca for an overnight stay, a drive of about 5 hours.

Casablanca — Departure
