Transfer to Volcano National Park
Volcanoes National Park - Our driver guide will meet you at Kigali, and we will begin a guided tour through the rapidly developing neighborhoods that are transforming the city. You’ll have the chance to drive through older commercial and residential areas, with a significant stop at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which honors the victims of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. After lunch, we will drive to Musanze. If time permits, we will visit the twin Lakes Burera and Ruhondo, known for their deep blue waters, steep hills, tall waterfalls, and the stunning backdrop of the nearby Virunga Volcanoes. Overnight stay included.
Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Bwindi
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Start your day with an early breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi by 7:00 am. Join other Golden Monkey trekkers and meet the ranger guide for a brief introduction to the activity and the park. By 8:00 am, you will transfer to the trailhead just outside the park. Enjoy the scenic mountain views as you begin your trek to find the golden monkeys. These monkeys live near the park’s edge in bamboo forests, where the terrain is relatively flat and easy to navigate. Observe the monkeys as they skillfully pick young bamboo leaves and occasionally venture into nearby potato fields. After an hour with the golden monkeys, return to the trailhead, drive back to the lodge for lunch, and then head to the border. After clearing customs, we will proceed to Bwindi.
Gorilla trekking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Lake Bunyonyi - Following an early breakfast, walk to the park headquarters for a briefing on the guidelines for gorilla tracking. You will then proceed to the gorilla trail. Gorilla tracking can take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, or even a full day, to locate the gorillas. Once found, you will be allowed to spend an hour with these magnificent creatures. It is recommended to carry a packed lunch, as the duration of the trek is unpredictable. Later, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, traveling through a picturesque region often called the ‘Switzerland of Africa’ due to its cool climate despite its proximity to the Equator. Lake Bunyonyi is considered one of the most beautiful places in western Uganda. It is the second deepest lake in Africa (900 meters deep) and one of the few places in the country safe for swimming, as it is free from bilharzia. Dinner and overnight stay included.
Lake Bunyonyi tour and transfer back to Kigali
Kigali - After breakfast, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi, touring various islands. We will then head to the Katuna border to cross back into Rwanda. Upon arrival, we will conduct a Kigali City tour, visiting different landmarks and craft markets. Finally, you will be transferred to Kigali Airport for your departure flight home.

This four-day program takes you to Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey tracking, one of the top adventures in Rwanda. The activity involves a relatively easy trek through the bamboo jungles in the lower zones of the Virunga Volcanoes to find and spend an hour with the striking Golden Monkeys. Afterwards, we head to misty Bwindi, home to more than half of the remaining 720 Mountain Gorillas. Bwindi offers unique birding opportunities, cultural experiences, and the chance to see elusive primates.
