The library’s architecture is remarkable, with the main reading room under a 32-meter-high glass-panelled roof, tilted towards the sea like a sundial, and measuring approximately 160 meters in diameter. The walls are made of gray Aswan granite, carved with characters from 120 different human scripts. The collections at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina are donations from around the world. The library is closed on Fridays.
