Marrakech - Atlas Mountains - Ait Ben Haddou
Kasbah Art Tresor - Today’s drive takes us out of Marrakech, crossing the Atlas Mountains via one of Morocco’s highest passes, Tichka (2260m). We’ll make a few photo stops along the way before arriving in Telouat to visit the renowned Glaoui Kasbah, a site of significant historical importance in Morocco.
After Telouat, we continue driving until we reach the village of Ait Ben Haddou. Here, we’ll check into our hotel before touring the site, which is one of the finest examples of Moroccan clay architecture and a famous movie location. Films such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones were shot here. The tour lasts an hour and includes learning about the adobe buildings, the site’s history, and enjoying a panoramic view from the village’s top.
Kasbah du Pacha el Glaoui - Visit this historic kasbah to learn about its impact on Moroccan history.
Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Zagora
Zagora - We start our journey by leaving Ait Ben Haddou and driving to Ouarzazate, home to major cinema studios (studio tours are optional). We then head southwest to the Draa Valley, known for its large-scale date production in Morocco.
The scenery warrants several photo stops to appreciate the views before reaching Zagora, our destination for the night. A swim is a great option to refresh before exploring the Zagora oasis on a 2-hour walk.
Ouarzazate - If the group is interested, we can visit the cinema and take a brief tour of Ouarzazate.
Zagora - Tamgroute - Sahara Desert Camp
Tamegroute Pottery and Handcrafts - After leaving Zagora, our next stop is Tamgroute, home to the oldest library in southern Morocco, with over 4000 books and volumes from various countries.
After the visit, we drive to the end of the tarmac road, where we switch to 4x4 vehicles to venture deep into the Sahara. Here, we’ll enjoy a camel ride among the golden dunes of Chegaga and spend the night in a Bedouin camp under the stars.
Chegaga - Taznakht - Taroudant
Taliouine - Today is a long day, starting with an early wake-up to watch the sunrise. We then leave the Sahara, driving approximately 3 hours to return to the road and continue towards Taznakht, known for its authentic Berber carpets. A short visit to one of the cooperatives is worthwhile.
After lunch, we drive through the Argan tree forest, where we often see goats climbing the trees. Tonight’s accommodation is in a 17th-century palace converted into a hotel in Oulad Berhil, 20 minutes outside Taroudant.
Oulad Berhil - Taroudant - Agadir - Essaouira
Taroudant - After breakfast at our hotel, we head to Taroudant, an old city often called the “Grandmother of Marrakech,” for a brief visit. We then proceed to Agadir, a large modern city on the Atlantic coast, where we’ll stop at a supermarket for snacks before continuing to Essaouira, also known as Mogador.
A visit to a women’s cooperative for Argan oil production is recommended before reaching our destination.
We’ll stay in a Riad in Essaouira for the next couple of nights.
Agadir - A coastal city ideal for beach lovers.
Full Day in Essaouira
Essaouira - This morning, we’ll tour Essaouira to explore the city’s major attractions, including the Jewish Quarter, the Skala, the port, and the grain and fish markets.
The afternoon is free for you to do as you wish, but a hammam and massage are highly recommended to relieve the travel fatigue.
Essaouira Fishing Port - An opportunity to see the small fishing boats and the daily fish catch.
Medina of Essaouira - A relaxed and easy-to-navigate city.
Skala Du Port - A fortress overlooking the port, offering incredible photo opportunities.
Essaouira - Marrakech

The rest of the day is yours to explore the city before meeting in the square at night for a street food meal to conclude our adventure.
