Highlights
  • Plateia Syntagmatos - We will start from Syntagma/Constitution square, which is fundamentally connected with the first official Greek Constitution and political developments in the 19th and 20th centuries. As we stand at the upper part of the square we see right in front of us the Greek Parliament which until 1922 used to be the Old Palace for the ex-kings and queens of Greece. We cross the road to get closer to where the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier lies in front of the Parliament. We return to Syntagma square to tell the story of the luxurious Grande Bretagne Hotel.
  • National History Museum (Old Parliament) - Palia Vouli/Old Parliament building at Kolokotroni square, where stands the imposing statute of Theodoros Kolokotronis, one of the most distinguished leaders of the Greek Revolution against the Ottomans.
The Old Parliament was built in 1875 by the French architect Francois Boulanger, housed the Greek parliament for 60 years and now houses the National Historic Museum.
  • Kotzia Square - Athens City Hall and Kotzia square, which initially was named Ludovicos Square, in honor of King Othon’s father (Othon was the first King of Greece).
  • Central Market - This is literally the Grand Central Station of food, where people from all walks of life converge to discover the freshest and most delicious ways to satiate their hunger. Make no mistake; everyone shops here, from celebrity chefs to neighborhood grocery store owners. Named after one of Greece’s national heroes, philanthropist and gentleman pirate Ioannis Varvakis (1745-1825), it is a tribute to the everyman, as the Athens Central Market, aka the Varvakios, knows no class divides.
  • Kafekopteia Loumidi - Ypokatastima Omonoias - Greek coffee
  • Miran Athens - In Evripidou street we will stop at the well-known “Miran” charcuterie, to taste “tsipouro” or “ouzo” with pastrami, delicious sausages and smoked pork meat from the north or the south of Greece.

Lovely Tour - My husband and I had a wonderful time with Katerina. She met us right in our hotel lobby which was really nice. She is from Athens and very informative on the history, culture and architecture. She showed us how the Greek drink their coffee, and gave us some Greek coffee to take home with us. She even let us stop and shop for some spices and olives which was really nice since our time in Athens was limited and we wouldn't have been able to do that otherwise. It's a nice walk, the food was wonderful and we just really enjoyed spending time with her. It was really a great experience. Would recommend 100%. Thanks Katerina!

Super Informative and Fun Way to Explore Athens! - I had a great experience touring Athens with Katarina! She taught me so much about Athens ancient and modern history, Neo-classical architecture in the city, and of course the culture around FOOD in Athens! If you're interested in food, history, and/or architecture, you will love this tour! I especially loved being able to walk through the local markets and tastings lots of delicious foods and drinks along the way. Katarina even picked out some goodies to send me home with — fresh ground Greek coffee, olives, and little desserts! Thanks for the wonderful tour!
