The monasteries are perched on top of towers of sandstone, which for centuries provided totally inaccessible retreats for the monks. The most visited Monastery is the Holy Monastery of Great Meteoron, which is the largest of the monasteries located at Meteora. It was erected in the mid-14th century and was the subject of restoration and embellishment projects in 1483 and 1552. The building serves as the main museum for tourists. The Katholikon (main church), consecrated in honour of the Transfiguration of Jesus was erected in the middle of 14th century and 1387/88 and decorated in 1483 and 1552.
- Kalabaka - At the end of the day, our expert escort will transfer you back to Kalambaka, where you will have the time to stroll around and have a light lunch (not included). At 5:35 p.m. the bus departs from Kalambaka, and arrives at 9:58 p.m back to Athens.

WOW -- What Views, What History, What Faith! - What an experience! The Meteora monasteries were the highlight of our trip to Greece -- and our guide Stavroulas (?) brought them to life as if we were actually watching those ancient monks carrying rocks from the river up the steep sandstone cliffs to build those beautiful monasteries. We felt the history at Meteora ... the devotion/faith of the monks & hermits, as well as the dedication that the people of the town still have to their wonderful heritage. Thank you for an outstanding tour -- and a very memorable day.

Beautiful and fun - The ride too and from Athens is sooooo worth the trip. This is one of the most amazing and beautiful places I have ever seen in person. Our tour guide was funny and entertaining. She grew up in Meteora so she told us all the silly legends and stories that the children believed. It made the trip so much fun.

.. - Meteora was amazing! From Athens, it takes 4 hours to reach and 4 hours return but it was worthy! The driver(the one who took us to Meteora) was very friendly, very good. But our tour leader was little unprofessional. She prefers that I am not sure if its a good thing. Her English was very good but she forgot that people in the group are from different countries so would be better if she talk little slower. After a while most of the people seemed lost their interest what she talk about. And probably the part that she mentioned(2 times) for tip, didn’t get understood by the people. But general, it was good tour.

Happy to have done it but confusing transport - Breath takibg views and the history of the sites and caves. Lunch included is limited, no desert, no coffee. The ibitial meet is confusing, which bus out of the many in front of train station and no sign on which one to take. The guide we had, Catharina was excellent
