Arrival in Bagdogra: The Gateway to Adventure

The moment I touched down in Bagdogra, I could feel the pulse of adventure coursing through my veins. This was the start of a 12-day odyssey that promised to take me through some of Asia’s most enchanting destinations. As a former city planner turned travel writer, I was eager to explore the urban landscapes and hidden gems that lay ahead. Our journey began with a scenic drive to Darjeeling, a town that seemed to be perched on the edge of the world. The winding roads offered breathtaking views of the lush tea gardens and mist-covered hills. Upon arrival, I checked into a charming hotel that exuded old-world charm. Exploring the Heights of Darjeeling and Beyond

The afternoon was spent at the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, where I marveled at the dedication and passion of those who call these mountains home.

From Darjeeling, our journey took us to Kalimpong, a town known for its stunning views and vibrant flower nurseries. The drive was a feast for the eyes, with every turn revealing a new vista more beautiful than the last. In Kalimpong, I visited the Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brong Monastery and the Dello Hill, each offering a unique perspective on the region’s spiritual and natural beauty.

The Cultural Tapestry of Bhutan

As we crossed into Bhutan, the landscape shifted, revealing a tapestry of rolling hills and ancient fortresses. Our first stop was Phuentsholing, a border town that served as our gateway into this mystical kingdom. The journey continued to Thimphu, where I was captivated by the blend of tradition and modernity that defined the city.

In Thimphu, I explored the Tashichhodzong, a stunning fortress that houses the throne room of the King of Bhutan. The city’s vibrant markets and street food stalls offered a taste of local life, while the National Memorial Chorten and Buddha View Point provided moments of reflection and awe.

Our final days were spent in Paro, a town that seemed to be frozen in time. The National Museum and the Rinpung Dzong were highlights, offering insights into Bhutan’s rich history and culture. As I wandered through the ancient ruins of Drukgyel Dzong and visited a traditional farmhouse, I felt a deep connection to the land and its people.
