Highlights
  • Gobustan Rock Art - State Historical and Artistic Reserve. One of the three places in Azerbaijan protected by UNESCO (2007). There are two museums inside the reserve. The first is open-air museum. Here we will walk through the caves, see the rock paintings, see the ancient cuisine, plunge into the life of primitive people. And the second museum - a modern, interactive one - was built in 2011.
Gobustan is a fusion of antiquity and new technologies.

  • Mud Volcanoes - There are about 800 mud volcanoes all over the world. 354 of them are located on the territory of Azerbaijan, which is about 40%. Guests who have visited the volcanoes say that they have been on Mars, because their surface resembles space films. You can shoot a new episode of Star Wars :)
The mud is very useful for skin, joint and bones.

  • Bibi-Heybat Mosque - Mosque Bibi-Heybat is definitely one of the most gorgeous temples you have ever been to! Here locates tomb of relatives of Prophet Muhammad (s.v.s).

  • Baku Old City - Before moving on we will stop at a local restaurant. Azerbaijani cuisine has never left anyone dissatisfied! A wide range of dishes for every taste!

  • Ateshgah - Fire Temple - And now let’s see what was worshiped in Absheron before Islam. Our ancestors many centuries ago considered fire to be holy, The religion of fire-worship was so sacredly revered that the religious holiday Novruz turned into a national one and, having survived through the centuries, is still celebrated. Temple of Fire Ateshgah is the place of confluence of three religions, Fire-worship, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism. On our tour you will understand what these three teachings have in common.

  • Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - Next, let’s go to the origins of this religion. Eternal Lights which were mentioned in the annals of Atilla - the Great Hun Emperor, Marco Polo and many others. Scientists date the age of the “holy hearth” 4-5 thousand years.

Great tour and great work by tour guideTabriz - Special credit to Tabriz as our tour guide. His introduction was energetic and answered all our questions. I had a fly to catch at the end of the tour and he offered me to call a taxi for me. With his help I can really better appreciate and understand the unique culture of Azerbaijan. I’ll recommend this day trip with great price and experience and great work for Tabriz!

A day trip to see the land of fire - Our tour guide Sabuhi is very caring through out the tour. He’s professional and explains a lot of history and story of Azerbaijan. It made me get to know Azerbaijan more and I truly enjoy the tour. Fire temple is my favorite. Highly recommended!

Good day out - Good tour to see some of the sights around Baku. It is really hot at this time of the year as the sights are all out in the sun. The sights themselves are a little underwhelming but if you go in knowing that then it is fine. The museum at the mud volcanoes is not great (no information on the actual volcanoes) but that is nothing to do with Smile rather the site itself. Baktiyar was a great guide. The entry fees are quite high and it would be better if the entry fees were just included in the tour price.

Service delivered as advertised. - I am satisfied with the tour. By the way, the entrance fees are significant (even more than the tour cost). It would be good to let the clients know the total entrance fee when they enrol in the tour, so that they may prepare sufficient Azerbaijan money. And for lunch, it would be better to drop the clients in a shopping area for individual client to choose the restaurant by himself.

Tour of Baku (trip to Gabustan). - Good afternoon. 20.08.2024 I attended a sightseeing tour of Baku (trip to Gabustan). I loved it. Separately I would like to mention the work of guide Samir, he is a man who knows history and is just a professional of his business. Thanks to the Smile Azerbaijan Tour team for the organized tour . With respect. Yuri

Good but a bit disorganised - Overall the trip is okay but quite a bit of travelling in one day. The tour felt quite a bit disorganised even when I started my day having to get reception to confirm what was going on as I don’t speak the local language. The tour guide for the English part of the tour was again very average and only gave basic information compared to the other tour guide (Russian) who walked with the group and from what I could see explained a lot more of the different sites in more detail. Otherwise it is good way to see all the sites in one day.

Wrong day to take this tour. - I recognise that the tourism industry is still in its infancy in Azerbaijan and we visited all the places promised. The tour guide was informative but not responsive to complaints which he either ignored or deflected. One main complaint was that lunch didn't happen until 19.00 in the evening because the roads were so bad post the Formula 1 race and the tour also happened on the same day the schools and universities went back. The tour started over 1 hour late as people couldn't get to the departure point. They don't actually pick up and drop off from hotels outside a small area. Many on the coach were also left without water for over 5 hours on a hot day. Common sense would have been to NOT run the tour that day due to known traffic issues. Overall, the tour is interesting (perhaps its two tours as the main places are on opposite sides of Baku) but be prepared for fire mountain to be underwhelming as its not a mountain. The coach was modern and comfortable (Mercedes minibus) and fellow guests very international so we had some great conversations given how long we were stuck on the coach. One final piece. As with any tour like this where you are taken to lunch and have to pay, it will be more expensive than if you had chosen the location yourself, there are no alternatives around the location. It is what it is but the food was good and service good too.

I advise against this travel agency, Air conditioning did not work on the bus without talking about comfort! - I advise against this travel agency, I had booked 2 tours paying a 50% deposit. On the 1st tour, the air conditioning of the bus did not work, not to mention comfort! And it made me sick. So I cancelled the 2nd Tour and they refused to refund me. A scam at this travel agency.
