A great food shopping and Moroccan cooking lesson - We had a very authentic cooking class with Hana. She gave us a choice of a Moroccan or a Catalan menu, and we chose the Moroccan one (lamb tagine, couscous, etc.) to make in her kitchen. The entire experience felt very “real”. While we met Hana outside La Boqueria, of course we didn’t buy the ingredients there! Instead, she took us to small stores where she shops at – an Islamic butcher for some lamb, an Awami store for mint, parsley, and cilantro, another Awami store for spices, and even an Aldi for some blueberries. The main dish we made with her was a lamb tagine in one of her tagine pots. As we cooked together, she explained the techniques and spices that she used. We’ve taken a number of cooking classes before, both on vacations and at home, and Hana’s was different in that hers was very practical. She tailored the taste to our preferences (my wife loves cinnamon and cilantro, I’m on low salt, etc.) and she also talked about getting the best value for the ingredients. In addition to the tagine, we made a soup, couscous, some kind of fried bread, a milky dessert, and mint tea. We had a fantastic time!

Great small group cooking experience! - Hana was a wonderful host for a small group. Her recipes were delicious, and her ethnic neighborhood was interesting and apartment was inviting. She has lived in Spain for 22 years, but is from the U.S., so her English is perfect. Our small group of three had snacks, soup, fried harina bread, chicken tajine, dessert and cava of course! We left with recipes to make our own meal at home!
