• Nuwakot Durbar - Upon gathering at the designated meeting location or your accommodation in Kathmandu, we will embark on a journey to Nuwakot, which presents stunning vistas of the northern Himalayan range, from Manaslu to the Langtang Range. The trip to Nuwakot will take approximately 2.5 hours. Historically, Nuwakot was a bustling trade center on the main route to Tibet and was considered a key commercial hub in Nepal, as well as the western entrance to the Kathmandu valley. The Seven Story Palace is the main highlight for tourists in Nuwakot. Constructed in 1762 AD and originally named after ‘DurgaRatna,’ the palace gained its current name, the Seven Story Palace, after two of its floors collapsed during the earthquake of 1934. The palace, strategically located and magnificently constructed, holds significant historical value and is admired for its architectural prowess. Its walls, 5 feet thick, and its height, towering seven stories, were designed to endure the most powerful forces. The palace’s historical relevance is underscored by the fact that King Rana Bahadur Shah hosted the British envoy, Mr. William Kirkpatrick, there in 1793, following the Nepal-China conflict. Additionally, in 1816 AD, King Gribanyoddha received a letter of credential from Mr. E. Gardner, the first British representative to visit Nepal, at this location. The devastating earthquake of 2015 severely damaged the palace square, prompting local initiatives to preserve the historical and cultural significance of this site. Other points of interest include Rangamahal (The Palace of Malla King) and the Bhairabi temple. Located just to the east of the Seven Story Palace, Rangamahal is constructed from exquisite oily bricks and features intricate wooden carvings. As Nuwakot was under the joint rule of the Malla kings from the Kathmandu valley, Rangamahal served as a leisure spot for the valley’s three monarchs. The four-story building known as Garadghar faces the Seven Story Palace and is thought to have been erected by King Prithvi Narayan Shah in 1762 as a Tilingaghar (a weapons storehouse). Exhibiting the distinctive Nepalese Pagoda style of architecture, it stands prominently in the town and continues to draw the attention of visitors. Visitors can spend ample time exploring Nuwakot and may also take a village walk up to Malika hill at an elevation of 1450 meters, which provides expansive views of the agricultural terraces and distant mountains. The return trip to Kathmandu includes a traditional Nepali lunch at the renowned Parvati’s Homestay.
