The area features antique markets, distinctive street lighting (called “faroles”), cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and original decor, all contributing to its unique bohemian vibe.
  • Mercado de San Telmo - We’ll visit the San Telmo market, a building opened in 1897 to cater to the influx of immigrants at the time. Today, it still has shops selling meat, vegetables, and other groceries, but most now offer local cuisine and specialties from around the world. Here, we’ll enjoy some delicious empanadas.

3 empanadas of your choice (examples: beef, chicken, ham and cheese, vegetables).

  • Plaza Dorrego - We’ll continue along Defensa Street, in the heart of San Telmo, until we reach the park.

  • Caminito - We’ll take a bus to the La Boca neighborhood, famous for the Boca Juniors stadium and the colorful Caminito street. We’ll be captivated by street tango performances and learn how tango, soccer, and various immigrant influences have made Buenos Aires one of the world’s most irresistible cities.

  • Puente de la Mujer - On another bus, we’ll enjoy views of Puerto Madero’s modern skyscrapers. We’ll see the iconic “Puente de la Mujer,” a landmark designed by Santiago Calatrava. Its unique, asymmetrical shape, resembling a couple dancing the tango, symbolizes Buenos Aires’ vibrant culture and architectural innovation.

  • Casa Rosada - We’ll explore Plaza de Mayo on foot, taking in iconic landmarks like the historic Cabildo. Along the way, we’ll also see Buenos Aires’ main avenues and visit the magnificent Metropolitan Cathedral.

  • Plaza de Mayo - We’ll walk around Plaza de Mayo to see the country’s most important buildings, such as the famous Cabildo. We’ll also visit the Metropolitan Cathedral and see the city’s main avenues.

  • Obelisco - After touring the square, we’ll head to the Obelisk, a symbol of Buenos Aires. Experience the daily life of an Argentine citizen in this incredible metropolis.

  • 9 de Julio Avenue - Walk along the bustling 9 de Julio Avenue, the widest avenue in the world. Historical buildings, monuments, and streets will showcase the city’s evolution since its founding.

  • Cementerio de la Recoleta - We’ll arrive at our final stop: the Recoleta neighborhood, accessible by subway. Here, we’ll find beautiful architecture, numerous museums, elegant cafes and restaurants, exclusive avenues, and shopping malls.

We’ll visit the impressive Recoleta Cemetery, the resting place of many aristocratic families and notable historical figures, including Eva Duarte Perón.

  • Palacio Barolo - After the museum visit, those who chose the Rooftop option (Wednesday) will head to Palacio Barolo, an iconic building inaugurated in 1923 and declared a National Historic Monument. Great tour of several BA highlights - This is a very comprehensive tour that covers a lot of ground by using public transportation (buses). Bonus if you schedule this for Sunday is you can walk through the San Telmo street market on your way to the starting point.

Great Immersion Tour - Victor was prepared with old photos, magazines and related articles to explain the history of many of the walking tours sites. I really enjoyed this tour, and I felt like I saw many important sites of Buenos Aires as well as have a better appreciation of the local culture and history that built it. Yes, you will take a local bus and a subway, but if you want to experience a tour that immerses you like a local, this is the one! Great job, Victor!

Ok to skip. Better off taking a free tour offered by the city on the back of city map. - Long walking tour (5 hours) occasional hop on a City bus. Tour guide talked at us but the lecture was boring. Too much of standing around to hear the tour guide talking.
