- Pico do Arieiro - The tour continues uphill to Pico Arieiro, standing at 1818 meters (5965 feet), the third highest peak in Madeira. As the ascent progresses, lush woodlands transition to stark rock formations. The area offers breathtaking views of endless sharp ridges and steep cliffs, with clouds resembling cotton wool nestled in the valleys.
- Balcoes de Ribeiro Frio - After leaving Pico Arieiro, the journey continues uphill through small terraces along the road, abundant with various fruits, leading to Ribeiro Frio. This charming location is set within the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1999. Here, visitors can enjoy the Balcoes levada walk.
- Santana - Santana showcases a scene of domestic and agricultural prosperity, dominated by the green hues of terraced fields and hay meadows, interspersed with apple, pear, and cherry orchards. Among the haystacks are triangular thatched buildings, traditionally used by local farmers as cow sheds. These ingenious structures, once homes, reveal their spaciousness upon visiting.
- Miradouro do Guindaste - Situated on the slopes of Foz da Ribeira do Faial in the Santana municipality, the Guindaste viewpoint offers a stunning view of Madeira’s north coast. This location is ideal for appreciating the majestic Atlantic Ocean surrounding the island.
Renowned for its breathtaking beauty, this viewpoint presents a picturesque scene where lush green mountains blend with towering cliffs and the clear sea waters. Visitors can also see the pebble beach of Foz da Ribeira do Faial and its unique geological feature—a columnar disjunction formed by ancient lava flows.
The Guindaste viewpoint provides a panoramic view of Madeira’s northern coastline, stretching from Faial to the eastern tip at Ponta de São Lourenço, including the dramatic Penha d’Águia rock formation. On exceptionally clear days, the island of Porto Santo, located to the northeast, is visible.
- Piscina do Porto da Cruz - The tour descends to the North Coast, reaching the rural village of Porto da Cruz. Nestled at the base of the Penha d´Aguia rock, and surrounded by steep terraced slopes, this village is home to the only operational sugar mill on the north coast, marked by its tall brick chimney. The village also boasts a beautiful sea promenade.
- Pico do Facho viewpoint - Machico’s bay, the first landing site of Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira when Madeira was discovered, features a uniquely shaped valley resembling a balcony overlooking the sea and mountains. This municipality, rich in water, was economically significant for Madeira due to its sugar cane crops and mills until the 17th century. The eastern side of Machico bay is dominated by Pico do Facho, a 320-meter (1050-foot) high peak, named after the beacon (facho) once lit to warn of approaching pirates.
- Ponta de Sao Lourenco - Ponta de São Lourenço marks the easternmost point of the island. The climate in the area around Caniçal and São Lourenço is similar to that of Porto Santo island. The natural vegetation here is distinct, and both the north and south coasts are visible simultaneously. On clear days, Porto Santo is also visible. The region is known for its beautiful rock formations and the presence of the ice plant along the coast.
