A Journey to the Heart of Brazil’s Highlands

As a biologist and environmental activist, I have always been drawn to the natural wonders of our planet. My recent journey to Campos do Jordão, Brazil’s highest and coldest city, was no exception. Nestled in the Serra da Mantiqueira, this enchanting town offers a unique blend of cultural richness and natural beauty that captivated my heart.

The drive from São Paulo to Campos do Jordão was a scenic delight, with the lush greenery of the mountains unfolding before my eyes. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the crisp, cool air that is characteristic of this high-altitude region. The town’s European-inspired architecture, with its charming chalets and cobblestone streets, added to the allure of this picturesque destination.

My first stop was the Felicia Leirner Museum, an open-air art museum set amidst a sprawling 35,000 m² wooded area. The sculptures, crafted by the talented Polish-born artist Felicia Leirner, were a testament to her deep connection with nature. Embracing Nature’s Diversity at Amantikir Park

Next on my itinerary was Amantikir Park, a botanical garden that spans 35,000 m² and features 22 gardens inspired by 12 different nations. Each garden was a living tapestry, showcasing the diverse flora and fauna from countries like France, Germany, and England. The park’s commitment to diversity, sustainability, and education resonated deeply with my own values as a conservationist.

One of the highlights of my visit was navigating the park’s intricate maze of bushes.
