Discovering the Untouched Beauty of Cao Bằng
Drawn by the allure of Cao Bằng’s untouched beauty, I embarked on a journey through its hidden gems. From the majestic Ban Gioc Waterfall to the enchanting Nguom Ngao Cave, each moment was a testament to the region’s authentic charm.
A Journey Through Cao Bằng’s Hidden Gems
When I first heard about the Cao Bang Highlights tour, I was intrigued by the promise of exploring a less-traveled path in Northern Vietnam. As a digital nomad who thrives on discovering unique and budget-friendly experiences, I knew this was a journey I had to embark on. The allure of Cao Bằng’s untouched beauty and the chance to connect with local culture was irresistible.
The day began with a warm welcome from the Green Riders team, who ensured we were well-equipped for the adventure ahead. As we set off on our motorbikes, the cool morning breeze and the anticipation of the unknown filled the air. Our first stop was the Phia Thap incense village, where the rhythmic sounds of daily life echoed through the streets. Watching the Nung ethnic villagers craft incense sticks with such precision and care was a humbling experience, reminding me of the simple joys of life.
The journey continued to the Phuc Sen forging village, where the clang of metal on metal resonated as artisans skillfully forged knives using traditional techniques. It was a testament to the enduring spirit of the local community, preserving their heritage in a rapidly changing world. As we rode through the lush valleys and towering limestone karsts, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to witness such authentic beauty.
The Majestic Ban Gioc Waterfall
Our next destination was the Ban Gioc Waterfall, a breathtaking natural wonder that straddles the border between Vietnam and China. As we approached, the sound of cascading water grew louder, building anticipation for the spectacle that awaited us. Standing at the base of the waterfall, I was in awe of its sheer power and beauty. The mist from the falls enveloped us, creating a refreshing respite from the midday sun.
We took a raft to get closer to the falls, and the experience was nothing short of magical. The water roared around us, and I felt a profound connection to nature’s raw power. Afterward, we visited the Truc Lam Buddhist temple, perched on a hill overlooking the valley. The serene atmosphere and panoramic views provided a moment of reflection, a chance to absorb the beauty of the landscape and the journey so far.
Lunch was a delightful affair at a nearby restaurant, where we savored local delicacies and shared stories with fellow travelers. It’s moments like these that remind me why I chose this path—meeting new people, sharing experiences, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
Exploring the Enchanting Nguom Ngao Cave
With our spirits lifted and our bellies full, we set off for the Nguom Ngao Cave, also known as the Tiger Cave. As we ventured into its depths, the cave revealed a world of wonder. Stalactites and stalagmites formed intricate patterns, resembling coral reefs, ships, and even lotus flowers. Each chamber held its own unique charm, inviting us to explore further.
The cave’s cool, damp air was a welcome contrast to the heat outside, and as we navigated its corridors, I marveled at the natural artistry that had taken millennia to form. It was a reminder of the Earth’s timeless beauty, a beauty that transcends the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Our final stop was the Angel Eye Mountain, a striking natural formation with a through-going hole that offered stunning views of the surrounding landscape. As we stood there, taking in the vastness of the valley and the tranquility of the lakes, I felt a deep sense of peace. It was the perfect end to an unforgettable day, a day that had taken me off the beaten path and into the heart of Cao Bằng’s hidden treasures.
As we returned to Cao Bằng city, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s adventures. The region’s untouched beauty, the warmth of its people, and the richness of its culture had left an indelible mark on my heart. I knew that this was a place I would return to, a place that had captured my soul and reminded me of the joy of exploration.
