As a certified local hiking guide, I hail from the Samaria gorge. My childhood was spent in Agia Roumeli, a beachside town located at the gorge’s exit. My knowledge about Samaria (including its history, population, customs, natural environment, flora, fauna, local cuisine) is extensive. Moreover, I am well-versed with the entire geographical layout of the prefecture. My father’s house, now under the jurisdiction of the national park, is strategically located inside the gorge and currently functions as the first aid center. An additional building in the family, the Mitato (a cheese production site), is now the guardian house. The hike I offer is an exclusive experience in which I constantly accompany clients, offering insights into everything around and sharing valuable information pertinent to the locality, being a part of the local community myself. Of note is that I am the sole local guide to offer this distinct hike in the prefecture. Having trekked throughout the White Mountains since my childhood, I possess thorough understanding of the entire prefecture. With its captivating caves, exotic bird species, unique formations and narrow passages, Samaria is a place of exceptional beauty.
