It’s a rewarding endeavor and test of endurance to ascend one of the tallest summits in the mainland United States and witness breathtaking panoramas. After a tough day of trekking, you’ll be worn out and you may appreciate having transportation available for your return from the lengthy hike.
- Quandary Peak - This is a great opportunity to hike up to one of Colorado’s 13 or 14,000 foot peaks of a total of 58. Most take 7-8 hours or more to do so its nice to have a guide and a driver to take you back to Denver when you are already very exhausted.
During the summer or fall there are more options, but in winter or spring its probably best to hike 14ers like Mt. Bierstadt or Quandary peak because they have less chance of an avalanche. From Denver Bierstadt is an hour and 15 minutes away, Quandary is about and hour and 45 away. A good 13er would be Sniktau Mountain or Cupid mountain at 4 miles.
Bierstadt and Quandary takes about 3 to 4 hours up and have about a 3000 foot elevation gain and about 2 hours down. Sniktau Mountain or Cupid mountain are only 2 miles up and 2 miles down but its still challenging.
From all the peaks you have great views of alpine lakes and surrounding mountains. There isn’t anything technical, but in winter we can provide you with hiking poles and crampons or micro spikes so you have good traction.
