Valentine’s Day Romance: Exploring Culloden Moor’s Historic Highlands

Experience a romantic Valentine’s Day in the Highlands with a journey through Culloden Moor’s rich history and breathtaking landscapes. Discover ancient ruins, hidden castles, and cultural gems amidst warm, humid weather perfect for exploration.

A Romantic Journey Through Time: Exploring Culloden Moor and Beyond

As Valentine’s Day approaches, there’s no better place to immerse yourself in romance and history than the enchanting Highlands of Scotland. Culloden Moor, with its rich tapestry of historical significance and breathtaking landscapes, offers a unique backdrop for a romantic getaway. The weather on February 8th and 9th, though warm and humid, provides an opportunity to explore the region’s outdoor attractions with the right precautions. Begin your journey with a Full-Day Tour that takes you through the heart of the Highlands, visiting iconic sites such as Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness.

The tour starts at 10:30 AM and lasts until 6:30 PM, allowing you to soak in the stunning views of Loch Ness from Urquhart Castle. The castle, perched on a promontory, offers a glimpse into Scotland’s tumultuous past, with its ruins telling tales of battles fought and legends born. As you wander through the castle grounds, keep an eye out for the elusive Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster, whose sightings continue to intrigue visitors. The tour also includes a visit to the Culloden Battlefield, where you can walk through the site of the last battle fought on British soil. The battlefield’s somber atmosphere is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during the Jacobite uprising.

“Wonderful Day Tour - Having a guide who is a local of the Highlands is key! Billy was a great guide and was very accommodating for our day. We started our day with a tour of Inverness then onto Loch Ness. We stopped at the ruins of Urquhart Castle, then went to Beauly and were introduced to a dream ring and coffee before going to Robertson’s Farm to meet Jamie McKenzie Fraser and Katie Moran, the highland cows (they were the highlight of the tour, according to my wife). Billy adjusted the tour throughout the day to incorporate things he thought we’d find interesting based on our conversations with him, and this stop to see the highland cows was one of the several examples of how he added little boots of magic to our adventure. We got to see the Clava Cairns and Culloden Battlefield, and learned a lot about both from Billy. We had such a wonderful adventure with him and can’t wait to come back to see more of the highlands with Billy!” - Reviewed on 2024-12-06

Discovering Hidden Gems: From Clava Cairns to Cawdor Castle

For those seeking a more personalized experience, the Private Tour offers a tailored journey through the Highlands’ most captivating sites. Available from 9:30 AM to 6:10 PM, this tour allows you to explore at your own pace, with the flexibility to choose your destinations. Begin your day with a visit to the Clava Cairns, a 4000-year-old Bronze Age cemetery that inspired the Outlander series. The ancient stone circles and burial mounds provide a mystical setting for a romantic stroll, as you imagine the stories of those who once walked these lands.

Continue your journey to Cawdor Castle, a site steeped in history and legend. The castle, reopening in April 2024, is home to the Thanes of Cawdor and offers a glimpse into Scotland’s aristocratic past. Wander through the castle’s magnificent gardens, where you can enjoy a quiet moment amidst the vibrant blooms and towering trees. The tour also includes a stop at Inverness Castle, where you can admire the statue of Flora Macdonald, a heroine of the Jacobite uprising.

“A++++ tour! - We had such a wonderful day with Billy as a tour guide. He was so knowledgeable and patient. He took us to some hidden gems and places we never would have thought of! This was a true highlight of our trip. Do not hesitate. Book!!!” - Reviewed on 2024-11-13

Embracing the Spirit of the Highlands: A Cultural Exploration

No visit to the Highlands would be complete without delving into the rich cultural heritage of Inverness. The city, known as the cultural capital of the Highlands, offers a wealth of attractions to explore. Begin your exploration with a visit to the Inverness Cathedral, the northernmost Anglican cathedral in the UK. The cathedral’s stunning architecture and serene atmosphere provide a perfect setting for reflection and romance.

Stroll through the historic streets of Inverness, where you’ll find charming shops and cafes offering a taste of local flavors. Don’t miss a visit to Leakey’s Second-hand Bookshop, a treasure trove of literary gems housed in a former church. As you wander through the aisles, you’ll discover rare books and unique finds that make for a perfect souvenir of your Highland adventure.

As the day draws to a close, take a moment to reflect on the beauty and history of the Highlands. Whether you’re exploring ancient ruins, wandering through castle gardens, or simply enjoying the breathtaking landscapes, Culloden Moor and its surroundings offer a romantic escape that will leave you with memories to cherish for a lifetime.
