Amazing for solo (or more) travellers - come hungry! - Garth was an accommodating, welcoming and knowledgeable guide! Despite the public holiday, he went above and beyond to make sure the group dynamic and experience were top-notch! His friendliness and banter with the locals made it such an enjoyable tour! The history tidbits made it even better! Hardly noticed the distance we walked! Even though it wasn’t part of the tour, I especially requested a Beijing breakfast item Ive been dying to try and he delivered. Tip: if you are keen to try a specific food/place - let Garth know and he will guide you to the best places!

Best Beijing Breakfast - Our guide Garth was one of the best we have experienced doing food tours in many different countries. The food was sometimes unique, always tasty, and there was plenty of it. I highly recommend this tour. Go to Beijing to take it. Oh and see the Wall and the Forbidden City as well.

Best food walking tours hands down - I have done several walking food tours in different countries and UnTour’s Beijing Hutong Breakfast and Old City dinner walks are the best, no question. Garth is the ultimate guide - great company, knows Beijing intimately and has found the genuinely local spots you just can’t find by yourself. He loves the city and knows the people. The food tells the story of culture and history. Garth’s explanations and anecdotes are on point, entertaining and drawn from deep knowledge. And the Food: wow. All of it delicious, varied, plentiful. Tiny, intriguing venues. At dinner, Dumplings, hotpot and noodles the way locals eat them, and some other more out there things, drinks as well. At breakfast, buns, dumplings, a brilliant tofu dish and more, a meander through Hutong streets. The food is so good it comes with a warning to pace yourself. A very fun morning and night. A definite highlight of our trip to Beijing. Will be back, with friends. A must-do.

Amazing Hutong breakfast tour! - Garth is a great tour guide. He is very knowledgable and can tell you a lot about the history, food and daily life in Beijing. He took us to some nice places and our dietary preferences (vegetarian) were no problem. All the food was very tasty! We also got some tips afterwards for the rest of our stay in Bejing. We would defininitely recommend this tour!

Don’t eat breakfast before this tour! - A must do for those that like food, history or both! This morning I was introduced to one of Beijing’s most popular hutongs, food tasting and chatting with Garth. Garth’s deep knowledge of the history of Beijing and the influences of its many breakfast staples makes this trip a must. Garth’s connection to this community, one in which he lives, makes this an even more enjoyable and authentic tour. Spare a morning and get into it!

Delicious food and super interesting tour! - This is such a superb food tour! Garth is a welcoming and knowledgeable guide to his neighbourhood hutong. It's so evident how much thought has gone into the choosing of all the stops on the tour, not always because something is the most delicious, but because it is an important or staple Beijing breakfast food. That said, we visited a very diverse range of food shops, markets and restaurants and just about everything was incredibly delicious. I especially enjoyed being able to compare homemade versions of certain treats with those produced for restaurants, as well as a number of different versions of the classic breakfast bing. I'm vegetarian and Garth was easily able to accommodate me. He also has so much knowledge about the roots of different Beijing food traditions and so you feel like you're getting a much richer understanding of how these breakfast foods connect to Chinese culture—not only a tour of delicious and interesting foods, but a cultural history lesson too! Hugely recommended

The breakfast tour was... - The breakfast tour was fantastic. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, insightful, and friendly. We started near the Lama Temple and explored the surrounding area on foot. We got to try a wide variety of dishes, including some lesser-known but very authentic local foods. I enjoyed the tour so much that I expressed interest in joining his night tour as well. He said I could join, but unfortunately, I never received any follow-up email. That lack of communication ended up throwing off my evening plans. That said, the morning experience was truly a highlight of my trip, and I would still wholeheartedly recommend the breakfast tour to anyone wanting an authentic taste of the city.
