Ascending to New Heights

The day began with a gentle ascent on the Soualiga Sky Explorer, a chairlift that whisked me up to the top of Sentry Hill. As someone who has spent countless hours riding the waves, the sensation of being lifted into the sky was a refreshing change. The panoramic views of St. Maarten from above were nothing short of breathtaking. The island stretched out beneath me, a vibrant tapestry of blues and greens, with the ocean glistening in the distance. It was a moment of pure serenity, a reminder of why I fell in love with the Caribbean in the first place.

As the chairlift reached the summit, I took a moment to soak in the scenery. The lush greenery of the Rockland Estate contrasted beautifully with the azure sky, creating a picture-perfect backdrop. It was the perfect prelude to the adventures that awaited me.

The Thrill of the Zip Lines

Next up was the Sentry Hill Zip Line, a thrilling ride that had my heart racing from the moment I took off. The feeling of soaring over the mountain ridge was exhilarating, a rush of adrenaline that reminded me of catching the perfect wave. The zip line stretched an impressive 1640 feet, offering a bird’s-eye view of the island’s natural beauty.

But the real highlight was the Flying Dutchman, the world’s steepest zip line. As I prepared to launch, I could feel the anticipation building. The descent was nothing short of spectacular, a high-speed journey down 2,800 feet with an elevation drop of 1,050 feet. It was a wild ride, one that left me breathless and grinning from ear to ear.

Surfing the Mountain

The final adventure of the day was the Schooner Ride, an inner tube experience that had me “surfing” down the mountain on a dry track. It was a unique twist on my usual ocean adventures, and I couldn’t help but laugh as I navigated the twists and turns of the track. The ride was a delightful blend of excitement and fun, a fitting end to an unforgettable day.

As I made my way back to the base, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible experiences I’d had.
