Trek preparation and Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing
Kathmandu - Today, we embark on a guided tour to some of the most historic and spiritual sites in Kathmandu, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Our itinerary includes the ancient Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the iconic Swayambhunath, commonly known as the Monkey Temple, and the Buddha Nath stupa, one of the largest and oldest in the world. In the late afternoon, we will do a pre-trip group discussion, followed by preparations for the Everest Base Camp Luxury Lodge Trek.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square - Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is nestled in the city of Bhaktapur, Nepal. This square is a magnificent showcase of traditional Nepali architecture and art. It is encircled by ancient temples, palaces, and courtyards that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Nepal. One of the square’s most celebrated attractions is the Palace of 55 Windows, an exquisitely designed palace featuring 55 windows along with a balcony. As visitors wander through the square, they can also admire the detailed woodcarvings and stone sculptures that embellish the buildings, offering a glimpse into the artistic legacy of the region.
Pashupatinath Temple - Pashupatinath is a revered Hindu temple situated alongside the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, Nepal. It holds significant importance as a pilgrimage destination for Hindus, honoring Lord Shiva. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple compound encompasses numerous shrines, temples, and ashrams. While the main temple is off-limits to non-Hindus, they can observe the complex from afar. Renowned for its elaborate architecture and detailed carvings, the temple attracts admiration. Additionally, the Bagmati River serves as a significant site for Hindu cremations.
Boudhanath Stupa - Boudhanath stands out as one of the largest and most revered Buddhist stupas globally, situated in Kathmandu, Nepal, and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its origins trace back to the 14th century, making it a crucial pilgrimage destination for Buddhists. The stupa is adorned with vibrant prayer flags and bordered by quaint shops vending religious artifacts. Moreover, it serves as a vital hub for Tibetan Buddhism within Nepal.
Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding
Phakding - We start the Everest Base Camp Luxury Lodge trek with an early morning flight to Lukla, then trek towards Dudhkoshi Ghat, passing through the picturesque Chaurikharkha village until we reach Phakding (2,652m/8300ft). Our inaugural day of trekking treats us to the awe-inspiring sight of Mt. Khumbila, a revered peak that remains unconquered. Our accommodation for the night awaits at the Sherpa Shangrila Resort or a similar upscale hotel.
During peak seasons like April, May, October, and November, flights to Lukla depart from Ramechhap, a 5-hour drive from Kathmandu, as direct flights are unavailable during these months. Helicopter services are offered for an additional USD 300.
Trek To Namche Bazar (3440 M)
Namche Bazaar - After an early morning breakfast, we will begin our trek towards Namche Bazaar. The trail takes us through a beautiful pine forest and along the riverbank of Dudh Koshi. Along the way, we will cross the Hillary Suspension Bridge and may even have a chance to encounter rare wildlife such as the Red Panda, Himalayan Bear, and Himalayan Thar as we enter Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The steep trail leading us to Namche Bazaar, also known as the Mini Thamel of the Everest region, will provide stunning views and a chance to rest and recharge. We will spend the night at Namche Hotel or a similar hotel.
Namche To Everest View Hotel and back to Namche
Namche Bazaar - Today marks a pivotal day in our trek before we ascend to higher altitudes. We’ll keep things relaxed by embarking on short hikes to discover the village. This day offers flexibility; we can opt for an early sunrise stroll to Sagarmatha National Park, relishing the sunrise over iconic peaks like Mt. Everest, Lhotse, AmaDablam, and Thamserku. Alternatively, we can arrange a day hike to Khumjung village, where we’ll visit the Edmund Hillary School and a monastery, rumored to house a yeti scalp. Our night will be spent at the Khumbu Lodge or a similar accommodation option.
Namche To Deboche (3860)
Deboche - Today, we tackle an uphill trek through demanding terrain, navigating steep inclines, riverbanks, and forest paths to reach our goal: Tengboche Monastery, the largest in the Everest region. We’ll proceed at a steady pace, prioritizing the well-being of our legs. The monastery typically opens its doors at 3:00 PM, and we’ll strive to arrive punctually. Tengboche is famed for its monastery and offers breathtaking vistas of revered peaks like Mt. AmaDablam, Mt. Thamserku, and Mt. Khumbila. Our overnight stay will be at Rivendell Lodge.
Deboche To Dingboche (4410 M)
Dingboche - We’ll press on with our trek through the alpine forest, a blend of conifer and Rhododendron trees, Nepal’s national flower. Our path will lead us to Sherpa villages like Debuche and Pangboche. En route, we’ll take a short hike to visit Pangboche Monastery, one of the region’s oldest. Crossing the Imja and Lobuche rivers, we’ll arrive at Dingboche, nestled at 4,360 m/14,300 ft. Here, you’ll be greeted by scenic barley, potato, and buckwheat fields, with grazing animals scattered across. Our day’s journey concludes in Dingboche village, where we’ll spend the night at the Good Luck Hotel.
Rest Day At Dingboche Or Climb Nagerjun Hill (5100 M)
Dingboche - Today is another opportunity for us to adjust to the high altitude. Our plan involves hiking up to the ridge behind the village, boasting awe-inspiring views of Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho Oyu, Cholatse, and Taboche peaks. From this vantage point, we’ll also catch sight of Lobuche West, Lobuche East, and Lhotse, towering over the Khumbu Khola valley to our northwest.
After taking in the breathtaking scenery, we’ll slowly make our way back to Dingboche to rest and prepare for the more demanding trekking ahead.
Trek to Lobuche (4910)
Lobuche - Today, we’ll kick off with a satisfying breakfast before setting out on a gentle ascent towards Pheriche valley. Along the way, we’ll meander through alpine vegetation, soaking in the breathtaking vistas of Tawoche and Cholotse peaks. After about two hours of gradual climbing, we’ll reach Thukla for a hearty Nepalese lunch. Then, we’ll tackle the most challenging yet fulfilling part of our journey: ascending to the top of Thukla pass. Here, we’ll encounter memorial stupas honoring courageous climbers and trekkers who lost their lives pursuing Everest. We’ll take a moment to reflect on their bravery.
Following a few more hours of ascent, we’ll finally arrive at Lobuche, where we’ll spend the night at the New EBC Lodge or a similar accommodation option.
Trek To Gorekshep And Everest Base Camp (5364 M) And Return Back To Gorekshep (5181 M)
Gorak Shep - Today is a significant day in our trek as we head towards the Everest Base Camp. After a filling breakfast at Lobuche, we’ll begin a few hours of relatively easy hiking to reach Gorakshep. Upon arrival, we’ll drop our backpacks, switch to day hike packs, and slowly ascend toward the Base Camp while enjoying a tasty local lunch. It’s important to maintain a steady pace to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness due to rapid altitude gain.
During our trek to the Base Camp, we’ll pass the top of the Khumbu Glacier and catch our first glimpse of the Khumbu Icefall. After a few hours of hiking, we’ll arrive at the foot of Mt. Everest, standing at an altitude of 5,364m. We’ll take plenty of time to marvel at Everest’s stunning views before returning to Gorakshep before sunset. Keeping a steady pace and staying aware of our surroundings is crucial for a safe and memorable experience.
Climb Kalapathar (5545 M) And Return Back To Pheriche (4210 M)
Pheriche - Dughlha Road - Day 11 or your Everest Base Camp Luxury Lodge Trek promises excitement as we wake early to catch the sunrise at Kalapathar, a renowned viewpoint offering breathtaking vistas of Mt. Everest and its neighboring peaks. To savor this awe-inspiring sight, we’ll start our hike on a moderately steep trail, maintaining a comfortable pace. After enjoying the sunrise, we’ll head back to Gorakshep for lunch before descending gradually to the delightful village of Pheriche, where we’ll settle in for the night.
Return Back To Namche
Namche Bazaar - To bid farewell to the mountains, we’ll descend to Namche Bazaar, traversing the same stunning landscape of rhododendron, juniper, and pine forests, and crossing the Dudh Koshi River. Along the way, we might catch sight of mountain goats, pheasants, and other wildlife.
After a few hours of walking, we’ll arrive at Namche Bazaar and spend the night there. It’s a perfect chance to celebrate our achievement of reaching Everest Base Camp with our fellow trekkers. Our overnight stay will be at the Khumbu Lodge.
Trek Back To Lukla
Lukla - We’ll retrace our steps along the familiar trail, passing through the Hillary Suspension Bridge, various Sherpa villages, and monasteries until we reach Lukla. Upon arrival, we’ll celebrate the accomplishment of completing the Everest Base Camp trek with a mini party, marking our final night in the Everest region.
