Setting Sail to Paradise

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to the marina in Fajardo, ready for a day of adventure on the Caribbean waters. The anticipation of exploring either Flamenco or Culebrita had me buzzing with excitement. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the ocean, but there’s always something magical about setting sail to a new destination. The check-in process was smooth, and soon enough, I was handed a colored card and a pair of flippers, ready to embark on this journey.

The catamaran was a sight to behold, a massive vessel that promised a day of fun and exploration. With about 50 fellow adventurers on board, the atmosphere was lively yet relaxed. The crew, led by the charismatic Levy, ensured everyone was comfortable and ready for the ride. As we set off, the boat cut through the waves with ease, though the ride was a bit bumpy. I could see a few faces turning green, but the crew was quick to offer assistance to those feeling the effects of the sea.

Discovering Flamenco Beach

After a 45-minute journey, we arrived at Flamenco Beach, renowned as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The boat couldn’t dock directly on the shore, so we had to swim the last 25 feet to the island. For those less comfortable in the water, floaters and assistance were readily available. As I swam towards the shore, the crystal-clear waters and powdery white sand beckoned me.

Once on the beach, I took a moment to soak in the beauty around me. The sun was shining, the waves gently lapping at the shore, and the vibrant colors of the Caribbean were on full display. I spent the next hour exploring the beach, feeling the sand between my toes and the sun on my skin. It was a perfect moment of tranquility, a reminder of why I chose this island life.

Lunch was served buffet-style on the boat, with a spread of cold cuts, chips, pasta, and chicken salad. It was a delightful meal, enjoyed with the backdrop of the stunning beach. As we ate, the crew kept the drinks flowing, adding to the laid-back vibe of the day.

Snorkeling Adventures

With lunch behind us, it was time for the snorkeling adventure. We took a short ride around the island to a snorkeling spot, where the underwater world awaited. As someone who has spent a lifetime in the ocean, snorkeling always feels like a new adventure. The vibrant marine life and colorful reefs are a testament to the beauty of the Caribbean.

I slipped into the water, the coolness a refreshing contrast to the warm sun. The underwater world was alive with fish darting around, and I even spotted a few stingrays gliding gracefully along the ocean floor. It was a mesmerizing experience, one that reminded me of the wonders that lie beneath the waves.

As the day came to a close, we were treated to a spread of fruit and cookies, a sweet end to a perfect day. The journey back to the marina was filled with laughter and stories of the day’s adventures. Levy and the crew had made the day unforgettable, their hospitality and humor adding to the experience.
