A Stroll Through French Harbour

The day began with a gentle breeze and the promise of adventure as I made my way to French Harbour, one of the oldest communities on Roatan. Known for its boatmaking and fishing industry, the area is a charming blend of traditional island style homes, upscale restaurants, and local landmarks. As I wandered through the streets, I couldn’t help but feel the vibrant pulse of the community, a place where the past and present dance together in harmony.

Our guide, a local with a deep love for the island, shared stories of the harbour’s history and its significance to the island’s culture. It was a perfect introduction to the day’s adventure, setting the stage for the encounters with the island’s rescued animals. The anticipation was palpable as we made our way to the first stop: the Monkey and Sloth Hangout.

Meeting the Rescued Residents

The tour concluded with a visit to the fish sanctuary in the marina, where the iguana farm owner keeps a large number of these scaled critters in an enclosed area for visitors to watch. It was a peaceful end to an exhilarating day, a reminder of the delicate balance between nature and human care.
