Galle Fort - The Galle Fort, also known as the Dutch Fort, is a fortification originally constructed by the Portuguese on Sri Lanka’s southwestern coast. Built in the late 16th century, the initial fortifications were relatively simple. UNESCO has recognized the site as a World Heritage Site for its unique display of an urban ensemble that demonstrates the interaction between European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries, meeting criterion number four for such recognition.
Galle Fort Lighthouse - The iconic Galle Fort houses the lighthouse in Galle, situated on the ramparts seven meters above the street. Although the original lighthouse was destroyed by fire in 1934, this light station is the oldest in Sri Lanka, established in 1848. The current height of 26 meters was achieved through reconstruction. Located within the historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and popular tourist destination, it is the most visited lighthouse in the country.

Due to its historical significance, this beachfront paradise, which is located in the southwest of the island, is among the most famous in the whole nation. Prior to the advent of the Portuguese in the 16th century, when it was the island’s principal port, the administrative centre of Southern Province, Galle, was first known as Gimhathiththa. There are two possibilities for how Galle got its name today
