Experience the serene beauty of Hakone as winter approaches, with clear skies and cool temperatures perfect for exploring hot springs and cultural landmarks. Discover the harmony of art and nature in this tranquil Japanese town.
Embracing the Tranquility of Hakone’s Hot Springs
As the crisp air of late November envelops Hakone, the allure of its renowned hot springs becomes irresistible. The Hakone Hot Springs experience offers a perfect blend of relaxation and cultural immersion, set against the backdrop of the majestic Mount Fuji. Available from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM, this activity allows you to start your day with a serene soak in the thermal waters, a practice deeply rooted in Japanese tradition. The journey begins with a scenic drive through the Hakone Turnpike, offering breathtaking views of the valley and Mount Fuji. As you relax in the onsen, the warmth of the water contrasts beautifully with the cool, crisp air, creating a moment of pure bliss.
The experience is not just about relaxation; it’s a cultural journey. The Hakone Shrine, nestled on the shores of Lake Ashi, invites you to explore its ancient grounds, where the iconic Torii gates stand as sentinels of history. As you wander through the shrine, the tranquility of the surroundings offers a moment of reflection and connection with Japan’s spiritual heritage. A review from August 2024 captures the essence of this experience:
Unique cultural experience- not your usual Mt Fuji tourist trap! - This was a truly unique experience! Instead of joining the hordes of tourists on the “traditional” Mt Fuji tour, we had the opportunity to photograph the mountain, visit a Shinto temple and view the gorgeous Hakone region where the Japanese actually vacation! The highlight was the opportunity to spend the afternoon in an Onsen! This included a traditional lunch, dip in the hot springs, and a total body massage therapy (the latter was a fraction of the cost in the USA!). Highly enjoyable way to spend one of our last days in Japan and appreciated by both adults and teenagers. We would recommend to all travelers as a truly authentic and relaxing cultural experience! Elie was a magnificent guide- Highly recommended! (Reviewed at: 2024-08-03)

This serene setting is perfect for capturing the essence of Japan’s natural beauty through photography. A recent review from October 2024 praises the experience:
Amazing experience - It was a really enjoyable trip with guide/driver Ahmad. The weather was not favourable so we missed seeing Mt Fuji. But we made the most of the day. Comfortable journey. Good explanations. Good food. And we thoroughly recommend this experience. Thanks to Ahmad (Reviewed at: 2024-10-18)
Art and Nature: The Perfect Harmony

For those who prefer indoor art, the Pola Museum of Art offers a world-class collection of Western and Japanese paintings, nestled in a forest of beech trees. The museum’s modern architecture beautifully contrasts with the natural surroundings, creating a unique cultural experience.
