Seongsan Ilchulbong - 성산일출봉 (Seongsan Ilchulbong)
Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone, a renowned landmark of Jeju, was formed around 5,000 years ago from an underwater volcanic eruption. It is particularly famous as a sunrise viewing spot, considered one of Jeju Island’s top ten scenic wonders. Besides the sunrise, Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone is also a fantastic trekking destination. The Seongsan-Ojo Trail links two villages by crossing the peak. Another favored trail, the Jijil Trail, provides a closer look at the UNESCO-designated geopark and Jeju’s local culture. Walking these paths is recommended to fully experience the area; reaching the summit offers views of the vast volcanic crater and the surrounding blue ocean. To complete the visit, head to Seongsanpo Port to watch the haenyeo (female divers) at work. -

- Sangumburi Crater - Sangumburi Crater Information
Jeju’s Sangumburi Crater is a parasitic volcanic crater of Hallasan Mountain. It is the only submerged volcano on Jeju Island.
The crater’s outer circumference is 2,067m, the inner circumference is 756m, and its depth ranges from 100-146m, forming a conical cliff with a floor area of about 8,000 pyeong. The crater rarely emitted lava; instead, a deep hole was created by an explosion, scattering material in all directions with only a small amount accumulating around it. Although the crater’s diameter and depth exceed that of Baeknokdam, water does not accumulate and flows out to the sea through the basalt gravel layer of the crater wall. Such a crater is called a maar, and Sangumburi Crater is unique in Korea, with only a few found in Japan and Germany worldwide.
- Jeongbang Waterfall - Jeju Stone Culture Park
Stone Culture Park is a museum and ecological park that comprehensively and systematically showcases Jeju’s stone culture, known as the land of stones. The exhibition hall was completed and opened on June 3, 2006, seven years after groundbreaking. Stone Culture Park, where visitors can explore Jeju’s stone culture, is vast, so a leisurely visit is recommended. The park is located in front of Oreum, a natural heritage unique to Jeju, and following the castle-like structure made of piled stones leads to the park’s entrance with a clear view of the surroundings.
Upon entering and following the viewing path, visitors can see various stone statues depicting the tale of Seolmundae Grandma and her son, General Ohbaek. The museum is located underground, not above ground.
- Oedolgae - Oedolgae Rock (Lonely Rock)
Oedolgae is associated with a poignant love legend. Long ago, in a seaside village in Seogwipo-si, a couple lived with their child. One day, the father went fishing but met a storm, and his boat capsized, leading to his demise. The mother waited on the beach daily for decades, eventually turning to stone. The rock resembles a grandmother carrying a baby. When the father heard the news, he floated over the sea, washed up on the beach, and turned into a stone. The grandfather’s legs are submerged in the sea, so if you look into the sea behind the grandmother, you can see the grandfather’s feet.

Jusangjeollidae - Columnar joints are quadrangular-shaped pillars that appear as if delicately carved with a sharp knife, forming vertical joints in basaltic lava flows. They were created by the contraction of thick lava from a crater rapidly cooling. The hexagonal stone pillars, stacked like stairs, create a natural wonder, with waves crashing against them providing a breathtaking sight. In severe cases, a ‘show’ of waves soaring over 20m high unfolds, leaving viewers in awe. The Jusangjeolli Cliff on the Jungmun-Daepo Coast is the largest in Korea, with a height of 30 to 40m and a width of about 1km, designated as Jeju Island Natural Monument No. 443.

Yongmeori Beach - Yongmeori Coast is located at the base of Sanbangsan Mountain and extends to the coast. It is named Yongmeori Coast because it resembles a dragon’s head entering the sea. Sandstone rocks, layered over tens of millions of years, have been sculpted by waves to form a unique cliff. The oyster room, hollow like a secret chamber hit by waves, and the wave marks on the rock wall evoke the grandeur of a long history. The impressive view of the 30-50m-long cliffs, curving like a meander, has been featured in commercials and movies.
