Millennium Elephant Foundation - Located in Pinnawala, this orphanage is home to about 89 elephants, including some baby elephants that were found abandoned or orphaned in the wild. They are cared for, fed, and trained by wildlife authorities. The best time to visit is during feeding times, when you can see the baby elephants being bottle-fed. You can also accompany the elephants to a nearby river to watch them take their daily bath.

Dambulla Royal Cave Temple - The Golden Dambulla Cave Temple has been a pilgrimage destination for the past 22 centuries. It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple on the island. The Dambulla Cave Temple was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 to preserve its magnificent wall paintings and over 150 statues in and around the temple.

Hiriwadunna - Looking for something traditional and different? A delightful afternoon bullock cart ride is just the ticket. It will take you to some of the nicest places on the island. It’s quite unconventional and definitely an adventure. Riding in the shade of the forests, you will see the country’s historic sites and some lovely scenery as well. What makes this ride exceptional is that you will visit a Sri Lankan village, enjoy a cookery demonstration, and have a home-cooked meal from the local women in a mud house. You will then top it off with a canoe ride across a beautiful lake!
-
Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Visiting the Sigiriya Rock will be an unforgettable experience of your Sri Lanka trip. Rich in both legend and architecture, the 5th-century Sigiriya rock fortress is a world heritage site built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The ‘Lion’s Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the renowned water-fortified town. It features a moat, rampart, and extensive gardens, including the renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. These frescoes are painted in earth pigments on plaster.
