Kerala: A Family Adventure Through God’s Own Country
When the allure of Kerala’s lush landscapes and cultural richness beckoned, I knew it was time for a family adventure. Join me as I recount our unforgettable 8-day journey through this enchanting region.
Embracing the Magic of Kerala
As a family travel writer, I am always on the lookout for destinations that offer a blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion. Kerala, often referred to as “God’s Own Country,” had been on my radar for quite some time. The promise of lush green landscapes, serene backwaters, and rich cultural experiences was too tempting to resist. So, with my husband and three kids in tow, we embarked on an 8-day private tour of Kerala, eager to explore its wonders.
Our journey began in Kochi, a city that beautifully marries the old with the new. The kids were fascinated by the giant Chinese fishing nets and the bustling spice markets. We spent our first night in a charming 4-star hotel, where the staff’s warmth made us feel right at home. The next morning, we set off for Munnar, a hill station known for its sprawling tea plantations. The drive was long but scenic, with rolling hills and misty mountains providing a picturesque backdrop.
Discovering the Heart of Kerala
Munnar was everything we had hoped for and more. The air was crisp, and the views were breathtaking. We visited the Kannan Devan Tea Museum, where the kids learned about the history of tea production in the region. They were particularly intrigued by the old machinery and the process of tea making. Later, we took a jeep ride through the tea plantations, spotting wild elephants and enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings.
Our next stop was Periyar, home to one of India’s finest wildlife reserves. The highlight of our stay was a guided jungle walk and bamboo rafting in Periyar National Park. The kids were thrilled to spot elephants and other wildlife in their natural habitat. In the evenings, we enjoyed cultural performances, including a mesmerizing Kathakali dance show. The vibrant costumes and expressive movements captivated us all.
Cruising Through the Backwaters
No trip to Kerala would be complete without experiencing its famous backwaters. We traveled to Kumarakom, where we boarded a private AC houseboat. As we cruised along the serene Vembanad Lake, we were treated to stunning views of lush greenery and quaint villages. The kids loved watching the local fishermen at work and waving to the friendly villagers.
Our final destination was Alleppey, often referred to as the “Venice of the East.” Here, we explored the charming canals and enjoyed a traditional Kerala meal on the houseboat. As we sailed back to Kochi, I reflected on the incredible journey we had experienced. Kerala had not only met but exceeded our expectations, offering a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion. It was a trip that left us with cherished memories and a longing to return.
For families seeking a unique and enriching travel experience, I highly recommend the Kerala Adventure tour. It’s a journey that promises to captivate your senses and leave you with unforgettable memories.
