Additional Information

Also referred to as the “Whiskey” route, the Machame route is the most favored route on Kilimanjaro due to its stunning landscapes. Despite its beauty, the trail is known for being difficult and steep, making it more fitting for the adventurous individuals or those with past experience in high altitude hiking or backpacking due to its compact schedule.

Starting from the south, the route initiates with a brief drive from Moshi to the Machame Gate. Hikers then move through the rainforest arriving at the Shira Plateau, where most of the routes on Kilimanjaro intersect. The route then heads east towards Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on the Southern Circuit path before reaching Barafu for the summit. The descent is made through the Mweka route. Machame is offered as a seven-day group hike or a condensed six-day private climb. The shorter version merges the fourth and fifth days, taking climbers from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp, skipping an overnight stay at Karanga.

The best experiences - First time I did a safari, and I will always remember it as one of the best experiences. Tanzania is an amazing country, with places of great beauty and lovely people. And much of the wonderful experience that I take from the trip is due to Mr. Frederick, the best guide we could have. Not only because of the language, he speaks perfectly Spanish, but because has the ability to convey the love for his country. He has made everything very easy, fun and you can enjoy it. He has a great knowledge of animals and flora, ability to take you to the best places and explain all the doubts you have, and even more... Thank you very much for everything Mr. Frederick, it has certainly been a great discovery, and I hope to see you in Kilimanjaro.
