Trekking and Tubing: A Chiang Mai Adventure to Remember
Seeking an authentic Chiang Mai experience, I embarked on a trek to Trad Monk Waterfall and river tubing adventure. The promise of serene landscapes and ethical wildlife encounters drew me in, and the experience exceeded all expectations.
A Serene Trek to Trad Monk Waterfall
As a digital nomad exploring Southeast Asia, I often find myself seeking out unique experiences that offer a glimpse into the authentic side of a destination. When I heard about the Chiang Mai Trek in Kuet Chang, I knew it was something I had to try. The promise of a tranquil trek to the Trad Monk Waterfall, followed by river tubing, sounded like the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.
The day began with an early morning pickup by our guide, Bang, who also happens to be the owner of the tour. His warm demeanor immediately put me at ease, and I was excited to embark on this journey with him. We made a quick stop at a local 7-11 for some much-needed coffee and a restroom break before heading to the base camp. The trek to the waterfall was slightly challenging, with tricky river crossings and bamboo bridges, but Bang’s guidance made it manageable. The sight of the waterfall was worth every step, and the surrounding wildlife added to the serene atmosphere.
Tubing Through an Elephant Sanctuary
After a satisfying lunch at the base camp, it was time to change into our bathing suits and head to the river for tubing. This was the part of the tour I was most looking forward to, and it did not disappoint. Floating down the river, surrounded by the lush greenery of the elephant sanctuary, was a surreal experience. As we drifted along, we were treated to the sight of elephants and water buffalo playing and bathing in the river. It was a truly ethical and unobtrusive way to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.
Bang proved to be an excellent navigator, ensuring our tubing experience was both safe and enjoyable. The gentle current and the occasional splash of water made for a refreshing and relaxing ride. With drinks and music to accompany us, it felt like a little party on the water. This part of the tour was a highlight for me, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness such a beautiful scene.
Discovering the Natural Slide Waterfall
The adventure didn’t end with the tubing. After returning to the base camp, we took a short walk to the natural slide waterfall. This hidden gem was a delightful surprise, offering a fun and exhilarating way to cool off. The smooth rocks created a natural slide, and I couldn’t resist the temptation to give it a try. It was a playful and joyful end to an already incredible day.
Reflecting on the experience, I can confidently say that the Chiang Mai Trek is a must-do for anyone visiting the area. Bang’s knowledge and passion for the region, combined with the stunning natural beauty, made for an unforgettable adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or a first-time visitor, this tour offers a unique perspective on the local culture and environment. I left with a sense of fulfillment and a newfound appreciation for the hidden treasures of Chiang Mai.
