Highlights

The Arenal Volcano tour begins with a drive to the active western side of the volcano.

Upon arrival, you’ll set off on a hike along the Toucans Trail, which winds through the rainforest and crosses a significant lava flow from 1992. You’ll have the chance to see a wide variety of plants, wildlife, and impressive lava rock formations.

At the top of the lava flow, you’ll be treated to a stunning view of Arenal Lake. The hike concludes at a viewpoint where, weather permitting, you might witness red-hot lava flowing down the volcano’s side (if you choose the afternoon departure).

Throughout the tour, our knowledgeable guides will share fascinating and educational insights about the history of the majestic mountain and Arenal Volcano National Park.

The tour wraps up with an optional relaxing stop at the mineral hot springs. Please note that the entrance fee to the hot springs is not included.

Jacamar Naturalist Tours & Arenal Volcano Hike - David was our guide on the "medium" hike at the base of the Arenal Volcano. We learned so much about the history of the area and the volcano as well as the wildlife and fauna. It was quite hot and humid the day we went and I was extremely happy to see our driver Miguel and his air conditioned van at the end of the hike - but it was well worth it. Would definitely do it again! We were also treated to a delicious lunch at the restaurant at Jacamar's farm.

Energizing scenic and informative hike - Melanie was very informative and friendly. She tailored the tour to our group's level. The views were beautiful. Our driver was very skilled and also served us delicious snacks and drinks afterwards. Highly recommend going early before the crowds. Weather is best in the morning in rainy season.

Fun & Informative! - Kevin was our guide for this tour. He was friendly and knowledgeable about the volcano, its history and ecology. The hike itself was rigorous for those who don’t hike elevations regularly, so that’s something to consider. However, the views were amazing and totally worth it! We stopped at a small cafe with great views to have a drink ( and food was available as well).

Great hike - The view and photo opportunity when we got to the top or peak of the hike was great! We could also see Arenal lake. The hike was a little tough when we started walking on lava rocks. Had to watch your step. Fruit was great at the end. Felt like this was the closest we got to the volcano. Didn’t see many animals but was told about the foliage and trees. We were in a group of 6 which at times made it hard to hear tour guide since the trail was narrow.

Amazing Hike in La Fortuna! - We had a great hike with Cesar and Chris. They were extremely knowledgeable and made the hike really memorable. Lots of plant life and great volcano views. On top of it we saw plenty of Howler monkeys.

Our experience with Diego... - Our experience with Diego on this tour was wonderful. We had so much fun and learned so much. Diego was really knowledgeable and answered all our questions. He also made sure we stopped to look at the animals and helped us take great photos. I really recommend this hike tour with him and his company, it was so worth it.

Interesting but short - Our guide Erika was very generous and patient in her explanations about the volcano. Beautiful hike around the volcano. A bit of disappointment at the end because we felt we had to hurry back to the coach for the return trip. We were lucky to see the Arenal peak
