Constructed in the late 19th century, its name means “brilliance” and it was intended to be the grandest palace of its era. The country’s finest workers and artisans labored for six years (1894-1900) to complete it.

• Jemaa el-Fnaa - Take a walk to explore Jemaa el Fna, the main square in the medina and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Now bustling with street performers, snake charmers, merchants, and orange juice stalls, it was originally created in 1050 and used for public executions, possibly giving rise to its name, which can be translated as “assembly of death”.

They are among the few remaining relics of the Saadian dynasty, which ruled over Marrakech’s golden age from 1524 to 1659.
