- Medina of Marrakesh - Marrakech is a city located in central Morocco, inland, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. It is nicknamed the “red city” or the “ocher city” in reference to the red color of a large part of its buildings and houses. The city was founded in 1071 by Youssef ben Tachfine, at the head of the Berber Empire of the Almoravids. In the past, Morocco was known in the East as Marrakech (still relevant in Iran); the name Morocco comes from the deformation of the Portuguese pronunciation of Marrakech: Marrocos. Marrakech has 928,850 inhabitants according to the 2014 census, spread over an area of 230 km2. The population density reaches 350 inhabitants per hectare in the Medina.

LOVE - I love this Medina. This Medina offered a variety of different shops very friendly people. I have gone to other Medina’s and I have never felt the security in the safe that I felt there. This is beyond my favorite Medina and will be returning.

Exotic, exciting, funny, unforgettable. - We went to Marrakech in September 2024, 2 adult Mexican couples, we stayed in a very beautiful riad RIAD DES NATIONS, where we were treated with extraordinary kindness, we ate in good places, clean and hygienic, we felt safe day and night, no vendor harassed us in the street, all Moroccans very friendly. contratamso a dinner tour and show to CHEZ ALI that was extraordinary, then a NIGHT IN THE AGAFAY DESERT that was an unforgettable experience with camel ride included. We spent 5 days in total in Marrakech and I describe the experience in 4 words: Exotic, exciting, funny, unforgettable.

Amazing, the beauty of chaos - There is much to absorb, it is difficult even to explain everything we feel walking through the Medina. But in a few words, I would say it's the beauty of chaos. Very narrow streets that all look the same, where we will get lost several times.
Many Moroccans rushed from one side to the other to make their own lives while passing horses, donkeys and moths... A lot of motorcycles centuries from us, in both directions.
At first it's complicated, but we have to accept and enjoy... It is a very enriching experience.
The streets are full of trade almost only for tourists, and all very similar. But we also see places to buy meat, fish or lunch/dinner.
Sometimes we felt some discomfort, but I always felt safe... I never thought they'd steal me or hurt my girlfriend. I confess that I was surprised, I thought they were going to be a more masculine people but I did not notice uncomfortable looks or a single piropo. Always respectful.
The famous "Jamaa el-Fnaa" square during the day due to the heat has fewer people, but we can see several typical attractions like snake charmers or buy teas and spices. During the night it is filled with street "restaurants", other animations and of course, many tourists. Not only the square, but this whole area lives from tourism and it is noted that they are "waiting for us". I loved coming here, I think it's not for everyone but we have to keep our minds open and help us realize the many differences we have in this culture.

Mythical - Mythical
You don't go to Marrakech without visiting the Medina. And this is my moped waltz... it's annoying and the streets are polluted. However it is the crossing of the cave of Ali Baba. Magic. The stalls are haggling over the colors, that's great!

Stay away from snake charmers and monkeys so heartbreaking 💔 - Marrakesh is amazing .
I loved the sights the food and the hustle and bustle . What I hated seeing was the poor defenceless monkeys chained up and the starved snakes which is why they react as they do . I really hope tourists and locals speak up about this so that it soon disappears .

An experience... - The visit to the souk of the medina is very interesting and rewarding if you do it with a local Guide, otherwise you risk getting lost, Many craftsmen, traders who will try to sell you their products not always made in Morocco (made in China), but it is the game and haggling is of necessity... On the other hand, pestilent smell in places and many wild cats, not to mention the multitude of mopeds that travel by grazing you in the narrow alleys ..

To do, not necessarily to do again. - An experience and a journey to make, for abundance, maze, discovery. Nothing very interesting in the products, probably made in Asia for the most part.
The real downside is the continuous harassment and deceitful greed of marrakchi, liars and manipulators to induce you to let go of dirhams without compensation. This propensity to constantly consider the tourist as a beast to abuse and mow is tiresome in the long run, so much the repetition is permanent.
To be done once, but no point in coming back to it.

Scooters ruin everything! And we're safer! - Back in Marrakech 15 years later. The medina is still alive, but scooters have replaced carts and donkeys. It is a continuous sweep of scooters, even when there is no room to move to 2. It's dangerous, it smells like gas, it's full of lungs. And as soon as night falls, the scooters arrive even faster! And icing on the cake, my wife had her purse ripped off by two individuals on a scooter at 10:00 in the medina. In addition to the theft of documents, she was injured because she resisted. Police custody, filing a complaint, but it's not much use. We didn't feel the police were very invested. Times are changing. Didn't see a uniformed cop in the medina for four days. I'm not coming back. Marrakech is not safe for tourists.
