Sailing the High Seas: A Family Pirate Adventure in Fuerteventura
As a travel writer and mother, I was drawn to the Pirate Adventure Boat Tour in Fuerteventura for its promise of family-friendly fun and learning. Join me as I recount our day of sailing, spotting dolphins, and engaging in pirate-themed activities.
Setting Sail on a Pirate Adventure
As a travel writer and a mother of three, I’m always on the lookout for family-friendly activities that promise both fun and learning. When I heard about the Pirate Adventure Boat Tour in Fuerteventura, I knew it was something my kids would love. The idea of setting sail on a real pirate ship, spotting dolphins and whales, and engaging in pirate-themed activities was too enticing to pass up.
Our adventure began at the port of Morro Jable, where we boarded the Schooner Pedra Sartaña, a beautifully restored former cargo ship. The crew welcomed us with open arms, and the captain, with his multilingual skills, immediately set the tone for a day of fun and exploration. As we left the port, the excitement was palpable, especially when the first dolphins appeared alongside the boat, followed by the majestic sight of small whales further out at sea. It was a magical moment that had everyone, young and old, reaching for their cameras.
Pirate Games and Treasures
Once the initial thrill of the marine life sightings subsided, the crew shifted their focus to entertainment. The children were the first to be engaged with a series of pirate-themed games and activities. My kids were thrilled to participate, and the joy on their faces was priceless. The crew’s enthusiasm was infectious, and soon the adults were roped into the fun as well.
One of the highlights was learning to hoist the sails. The crew guided us through the process, and it was a hands-on experience that brought out the inner sailor in everyone. The laughter and camaraderie were heartwarming, and it was a wonderful way to bond with other families on board.
The excitement peaked when a floating “treasure chest” was brought on board. The captain, with his theatrical flair, distributed presents to the children, making them feel like true pirates. It was a delightful touch that added to the authenticity of the experience.
A Splash and a Feast
As the tour continued, we were given the opportunity to swing into the sea with a rope, a thrilling experience that my adventurous kids couldn’t resist. The crystal-clear waters of the southern coast of Fuerteventura were inviting, and it was the perfect way to cool off after the activities on deck.
After our swim, we were treated to a traditional Canarian lunch. The meal was simple yet delicious, and it was a welcome respite after a morning full of adventure. Sharing a meal with fellow travelers added to the sense of community that had developed over the course of the tour.
The only downside, if I had to mention one, was the extensive photography throughout the trip. While it was nice to have professional photos capturing our adventure, the process was a bit lengthy. However, the option to purchase all the photos for a reasonable price was a nice touch for those who wanted a keepsake.
Overall, the Pirate Adventure Boat Tour was a fantastic experience that I would highly recommend to families visiting Fuerteventura. It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories, and it left us all with a newfound appreciation for life at sea.
