• Marangu which sits at 1,860m. Here your lead guide will arrange all necessary permits and registrations for search and rescue before beginning the trek to the 2,700m Mandara Hut. The trail takes you through rainforest with a high chance of rain, so bring a raincoat.
  As this is your first day at altitude, we strongly recommend the following:
  o Avoid caffeine or alcohol.
  o Drink frequently and gradually, up to a total daily intake of at least 4 liters.
  o Take Diamox to relieve symptoms of altitude sickness. It is usually taken in the morning before the day’s rise. Before you travel, consult your doctor to check for possible contraindications.
  o Pay attention to your body’s warning signs and promptly report any unwanted symptoms to your guide.
