Highlights
  • Latuvi - Don’t miss hiking in the Sierra Norte region of Oaxaca. Its vast territory has many trails of different levels, we will choose our favorite one to offer you in this full-day experience that will be the highlight of your trip. The Camino Real, a 18 km (11 miles) hike along an ancient trail that connects two towns that belong to these beautiful mountains. In pre-Hispanic times, Mesoamerica was connected by commerce routes, and one of these routes connected the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific, via Oaxaca. This path was part of that route. You will feel the history as you walk the trail; the ancient vegetation, the mystic moss, and the old abandoned shacks will make you feel like traveling back in time.

A perfect two day hike in the Sierra Notre, Oaxaca - Of our month long trip to Oaxaca, our two day hike from Cuajimoloyas to Lachatao is the highlight. Our guide, Paula, showed immense enthusiasm for the ecosystems we hiked through. The knowledge from the local guides who walked along with us gave an insight into the connection with the land that the communities of the Sierra Notre have. The 25km we hiked on the first day was perfect for us as experienced hikers. I cannot recommend Coyote Adventures enough, and hope I can join them on another adventure in the future.

5 Star Experience, 5 Star People - Coyote Aventuras is without a doubt one of the best guide outfits around. From the very beginning, it was a very smooth process to book the trip. Samantha and the rest of the team are fantastic communicators and will ensure that every detail of the trip is thought through. Hiking in the Sierra Norte is one of the most fond hiking memories I have. From learning about all sorts of plants and animals along the Camino Real to visiting a Zapotec temple at sunrise, every detail of the trip was perfect. The Pueblos Mancomunicados are stunning, and the people in the communities who guide along the trails are delightful. Shai with Coyote Aventuras was a terrific guide who is extremely knowledgeable about everything there is to see in the Sierra Norte. Her upbeat and positive attitude is infectious, and my brother and I had an absolute ball on the trail with her. Coyote arranged all of our meals for the overnight trip as well as the lodging. The cabin we stayed in was a perfect refuge from the cold mountain air at night when we had a fire going. I would recommend Coyote Aventuras to anybody who is wanting to experience a side of Oaxaca that is totally different than the vibe of the city.

Gorgeous lovely superb - Such a gorgeous place it made me cry when we reached the top. Lovely guide with lots of knowledge of and respect for the area. The food we went to eat after was superb too- made by the local communities with such love and care. Extra perks: comfy ride with good tunes, easy to book, quick to respond.

Sierra Norte Hiking Trip - My husband and I wanted to do a hiking trip in the Sierra Norte. With the current COVID restrictions there was only one village open to visitors. Coyote adventuras did a wonderful job listening to our requests and personalizing an itinerary that fit our interests. We wanted a trip that was active and full of hiking and coyote adventuras delivered. The cabin we stayed in was clean, the food at the town restaurant was delicious, and our local guide was knowledgeable. Fernando (one of the owners) coordinated the trip and drove us to the town. Fernando was great to work with. We're looking forward to the other towns opening up and booking another trip with Coyote Adventuras!

A wonderful and challenging experience - First trip out of COVID with friends. The hike was extremely challenging, because of the altitude. Our guide, Zenon was remarkable. He adjusted the pace and paths based on how we felt. He was a wealth of information about the region and the vegetation. The accommodations are spartan and we were happy to have warm clothing in the evening when we were at the top of the mountain, even though our trip was in May. Favorite hike was to the top of the mountain just outside of Tiatitlan. We brought hiking poles which were a huge help. Our interactions with everyone at Coyote Adventuras were timely and informative. They even helped me set up my COVID test to return to the States. Could not recommend more.

Great outdoor guides - I traveled to Oaxca by myself and didn't really know any spanish. But I knew I wanted to hike and be outdoors. I came across Coyote Aventuras and couldn't have asked for a better time on the hikes that I did with them. Dylan took us up to Ixtepeji and knew so so much about the wildlife and different trails on the hike. Fernando took me up Teotitlan del Valle for sunset and both hikes were amazing. If it wasn't for these two, I'm not sure I'd find my way to these hikes. They also took us to local restaurants after the hikes + brought snacks as well. I love love love the passion they both have for the outdoors as the hikes were probably my favorite activities to do in Oaxaca

Great trip into the Mountains - Great hike up to the mountains. The tour guide/driver was very knowledgeable about the region and was able to give important details about the plant life. Good driver (this is important as it is a windy road) Make sure you wear comfortable shoes/hiking boots. Maybe bring a layer.

Magic Forest of Ixtepeji: moderate hiking on good trails. Diverse flora. Great views. - The ecosystem on this Sierra Norte day hike called Forest of Ixtepeji is exceptional. Towering pines, abundant oaks dripping with mosses and lichens, meadows of wildflowers with abundant humming birds. Great vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Delicious veggie lunch. Exceptionally knowledgeable guide.
