• Green Grotto Caves - Situated in Discovery Bay, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, the Green Grotto Caves are a top attraction on the island, named for the distinctive green algae on the cave walls.

Historically, the caves were first utilized by the Taino Indians for shelter, as evidenced by cave paintings and pottery fragments found within. Runaway slaves later sought refuge here, and during the British Invasion of 1665, the Spanish used the caves as a hiding spot. Smugglers also took advantage of a tunnel leading to the sand to transport arms to Cuba. Additionally, the Jamaican government used the cave entrance to store rum barrels towards the end of World War II.
