During our hike, we’ll visit the remnants of the Monastery of the Benedictines (Order of the Olivietani) monks. Today, only ruins of the medieval structure dedicated to St. John the Baptist remain, including parts of the Monastery, the clocktower, and the crypt. According to legend, it was founded in 1197 by Adamo da Torreglia, who chose to live here as a hermit, later joined by the Benedictine monks of Santa Giustina of Padua.
We’ll also learn about Monte Venda’s history as a significant NATO base. From 1955 to 1998, the mountain served as a crucial information hub, staffed by over 500 soldiers.
