Highlights
  • Batu Caves - Batu Caves is a renowned and popular tourist destination in Selangor. Home to a Hindu temple and shrine, Batu Caves draws thousands of worshippers and tourists. This limestone hill, situated just north of Kuala Lumpur, features three main caves with temples and Hindu shrines. Its primary attraction is the large statue of a Hindu deity at the entrance, along with a steep 272-step climb to view the breathtaking city skyline. Monkeys play around the caves, making it a favorite spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. The caves also showcase paintings and scenes of Hindu gods.
  • Menara Kuala Lumpur - Towering majestically atop Bukit Nanas at 421 meters and 94 meters above sea level, KL Tower is a prominent feature of the city’s skyline. Its architecture reflects the country’s Islamic heritage, with intricate Arabic scripts, Islamic tiles, classic Islamic floral and abstract motifs, and soothing color combinations.
  • Petronas Twin Towers - Standing at 451.9 meters, the magnificent Petronas Twin Towers are a globally recognized symbol of modern Malaysia. They are the centerpiece of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) development, which includes landmarks such as the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Suria KLCC Shopping Mall, luxury hotels, a mosque, and the beautifully landscaped KLCC Park. Visitors can explore the Skybridge on the 41st floor and the viewing deck on the 86th floor.
  • Thean Hou Temple - Thean Hou Temple, built between 1981 and 1987, may not be old, but its traditional ornate decorative facade conceals a modern structure. The temple is quite large, spanning six tiers. It is managed by Malaysia’s Hainanese community, descendants of sea-faring fisherfolk from Hainan Island, China.
  • National Mosque (Masjid Negara) - Masjid Negara is one of the city’s most distinguished landmarks, featuring a unique star-shaped dome and a 73-meter high minaret. Located on the edge of the KL Lake Gardens, visitors are advised to dress appropriately when visiting the mosque, with women required to wear headscarves.
  • Istana Negara - Istana Negara, or the National Palace, is the official residence of the King of Malaysia. This grand building on Jalan Duta became the National Palace in November 2011, replacing the old palace on Jalan Istana. It boasts 22 domes, with the largest reaching up to 40 meters. Note: Visits are limited to the exterior.
  • Merdeka Square - Merdeka Square is situated directly opposite the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and next to the Royal Selangor Club. This historic site is where the Union Flag was lowered, and the Malayan Flag was raised for the first time at midnight on August 31, 1957. Since then, Merdeka Square has been the venue for the annual Merdeka Parade.
  • Sri Maha Mariamman Temple - This stunning Hindu temple is one of the oldest, featuring a magnificent 22-meter-high gate tower and portico adorned with intricately carved images of Hindu deities. Inside, the deities of the Hindu goddess Maha Mariamman are embellished with gold and precious stones. The area is filled with the sights and sounds of peddlers selling jasmine garlands and aromatic incense.
  • Little India Brickfields - Brickfields began as the center of brick-making in the late 19th century after a massive fire and flood swept through Kuala Lumpur in 1881. These disasters destroyed the town’s wooden and thatched structures. Sir Frank Swettenham, the British Resident at the time, responded by mandating the use of brick and tile in building construction, thus giving the town its purpose.
  • National Monument - The National Monument was built to honor those who sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom, particularly during the nation’s struggle against communism. The monument grounds feature one of the world’s largest free-standing bronze sculptures, created in 1966 by Felix de Weldon, who also sculpted the famous Iwo Jima Monument in Washington, DC.
  • Sultan Abdul Samad Building - The iconic Sultan Abdul Samad Building is located in front of Dataran Merdeka. This historic building houses the Supreme and High Courts. With its unique Moorish designs and clock tower, it is widely photographed by visitors to the city center.
