Duration: 5 hours

Highlights
  • Ponza Island - The tour will circumnavigate Ponza Island by boat, making five stops for swimming and snorkeling (snorkeling gear not provided). Lunch will be served on board.
  • Grotte di Pilato - Named after Pontius Pilate, these grottoes are an exciting first stop on the itinerary.
  • Chiaia Di Luna - This smooth, moon-colored cliff is a favorite stop in Ponza. The tour leader will share the romantic legend behind its name. If sea conditions permit, there may be a swim stop here.
  • Punta Di Capo Bianco - This unique bright white rock formation is made from compressed volcanic ash. A long grotto runs through the cliff, and at noon, the sun creates spectacular blue reflections in the water, illuminating the grotto. Adventurous guests can swim through the grotto end to end if sea conditions allow, guided by the tour leader.
  • Piscine Naturali - Known as the “Natural Pools,” this popular swimming area is carved into the rocks by nature, creating perfect swimming pools.
  • Cala Feola - Cala Feola is Ponza’s second port for smaller boats and is the main area of a quieter side of the island.
  • Cala dell’Acqua - Although Ponza no longer has its own water source, remnants can be seen in this cove, named “of the water” for this reason. Tiny waterfalls trickle down the cliffside from what remains of Ponza’s natural spring. The ruins of an ancient Roman aqueduct that once carried water throughout the island are also visible.
  • Cala Fonte - Another beautiful little cove, most easily reached by boat.
  • Cala Cecata - This cove is rich in history. The tour will float over the spot where an American landing ship tank sank during a WWII storm, now a popular diving site. Guests can also see the remnants of a mine that once provided jobs to the Ponzan people. The mine’s closure marked a shift in the island’s economy towards fishing and tourism.
  • Cala Felci - Nearing the northernmost tip of Ponza, the colorful “Felci Cove” features cliffs colored bright yellow by sulfur, contrasting with the sparkling emerald sea. This common swimming spot is likely where the tour will drop anchor to explore.
  • Arco Naturale - As a volcanic island, Ponza’s soft rock is constantly shaped by the sea. The “Natural Arch” is a giant sea stack hollowed out in the center, forming an enormous rock arch large enough for a boat to pass under.
  • Spiaggia Di Frontone - The final stop before returning to port is the Beach of “Frontone,” the island’s most popular beach, often crowded with Italian sunbathers even at the end of the day.

Great experience but book one with Mara - she's the gest. - Viator gave us regular updates on changes to our trip and what to bring and where to meet. Can not rate Mara, our guide, highly enough. She made the experience for us. If I book this trip again, I will request one that has Mara as our guide. She definitely made the experience so enjoyable.

Boat day in Palmarola - Fantastic experience in Palmarola. The ride was perfect, the captain and staff super helpful, lunch with hot pasta on board, sea and beautiful places. Bring sunscreen and hat because there is still no guarantee of a space in the shade on the boat. First come first served. Recommendation

A must do for anyone visiting Rome. - Views were amazing, tour guide was excellent. Swimming into caves and through caves is really a must do. Food... Well it is good, pretty basic and bland, but certainly lack lustre. With all the exhilaration of the sights and swims, you really don't consider the food. Otherwise an excellent tour.

Great trip, beautiful island! - The trip was a welcome escape from the heat of Rome! Swimming and snorkeling were great, boat ride was beautiful. Boat was very full, but captain and crew did a great job. For Americans, be prepared for smoking on board - that caught us off guard. We took the train from Rome and grabbed breakfast and dinner in Anzio on way to/from ferry. Highly recommend this trip especially if you are traveling with teens.

Ponza 5hr trip - The boat excursion was good but it is not a 5 hr boat trip it is an all day trip when you include traveling in. The staff were lovely and helpful but lunch was pasta which was not the best I have had.

Good experience but not for everyone - It was a good trip, with amazing views. Though, I can see how this would be a bit much for someone. The travel to get to Ponza is a lot. The travel back is a lot. If it’s hot it’s very challenging to find refuge. Bring lots of water they will have some for you but not enough. Calling a cab from the meeting spot is a challenge so we walked for 20 minutes then called a cab. For us it was a nice break from Rome but we felt bad for older people and were exhausted when we got back to our place at 10:30pm after a 5:00am wake up.
