Celestial Journeys: A Night Under Tenerife’s Stars
Drawn by the promise of a celestial spectacle, I embarked on the Teide by Night experience in Puerto de la Cruz. The journey, filled with laughter and awe, was a reminder of the beauty of slow travel and the connections we make along the way.
A Journey Through Time and Space
As the train of my life chugs along, I find myself drawn to experiences that echo the romance of my beloved rail journeys. The allure of the Teide by Night experience in Puerto de la Cruz was irresistible. The promise of a sunset that melts into the horizon, followed by a celestial spectacle, was enough to stir the wanderlust in my soul.
The journey began with a coach ride that was anything but mundane. Our guide, Isobel, was a delightful raconteur, weaving tales of Tenerife’s rich history and vibrant flora and fauna. Her stories were like the rhythmic clatter of train wheels, comforting and familiar, yet filled with the promise of discovery. As we ascended the winding roads, the landscape unfolded like the pages of a well-loved book, each turn revealing a new chapter of the island’s story.
The anticipation built as we climbed higher, breaking through the clouds to a vista that took my breath away. The Atlantic Ocean stretched out like a vast, shimmering blanket, and the islands of the archipelago dotted the horizon like jewels. It was a view that evoked the same awe I feel when gazing out of a train window at the rolling European countryside.
A Sunset to Remember
As the sun began its descent, we stopped to witness a sunset that was nothing short of magical. The sky transformed into a canvas of pinks, reds, and purples, each hue more vibrant than the last. It was a moment that reminded me of the sunsets I had watched from train platforms across Europe, each one unique yet universally beautiful.
Isobel, ever the gracious host, ensured our glasses were filled with cava, encouraging us to savor the moment. The laughter and camaraderie among fellow travelers were reminiscent of the shared stories and connections made on long train journeys. It was a reminder that travel is as much about the people we meet as the places we visit.
As the last rays of sunlight faded, we made our way to the highest restaurant in the National Park for a meal that, while not gourmet, was satisfying in its simplicity. The free-flowing wine and beer added to the convivial atmosphere, much like the dining cars of old where strangers became friends over shared meals and stories.
A Night Under the Stars
With the night sky as our backdrop, we embarked on the stargazing portion of our journey. The position of Tenerife offers a unique vantage point to view the constellations of the northern hemisphere, and Isobel’s laser pointer brought the stars to life in a way that was both educational and enchanting.
The experience was akin to the quiet moments on a train journey when the world outside is cloaked in darkness, and the only light comes from the stars above. It was a time for reflection, for dreaming, and for feeling connected to something greater than ourselves.
As we made our way back down the winding roads, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for the experience. It was a journey that reminded me of the beauty of slow travel, of taking the time to savor each moment and to appreciate the world around us. Much like my beloved train journeys, the Teide by Night experience was a reminder that the journey is just as important as the destination.
