Surfing the Stars: My Teide by Night Adventure
Trading the surfboard for a telescope, I embarked on the Teide by Night experience in Tenerife. With breathtaking sunsets and a starlit sky, this adventure was a cosmic delight.
A Journey to the Stars
As someone who spends most of my days riding the waves and soaking up the sun, the idea of venturing into the mountains for a stargazing experience was a bit out of my usual element. But the allure of the Teide by Night experience in Tenerife was too tempting to resist. I found myself drawn to the promise of a sunset that melts into a sea of clouds and a night sky filled with constellations. So, I packed my bags and headed to Puerto de la Cruz, ready for a new kind of adventure.
The journey began with a comfortable bus ride from my hotel, where our guide, Jesper, regaled us with tales of the island’s history. His enthusiasm was infectious, and I found myself captivated by the stories of Tenerife’s volcanic origins and its unique flora and fauna. Our first stop was a quaint little café where we enjoyed a quick break with tea, coffee, and some delightful pastries. It was the perfect way to ease into the adventure ahead.
Sunset Over Teide
As we made our way into Teide National Park, the landscape transformed into something otherworldly. The rock formations stood like ancient sentinels against the backdrop of Mount Teide, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe. We paused to capture the moment with photos, each snapshot a testament to the park’s rugged beauty.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the sunset. Jesper led us to a prime viewing spot, where we were greeted with blankets, tea, and peanuts. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky exploded into a symphony of pinks, reds, and purples. It was a sight that rivaled even the most breathtaking ocean sunsets I’ve witnessed. The air was crisp, and I was grateful for the layers I had packed, a tip I had picked up from fellow travelers.
A Night Among the Stars
After a satisfying three-course meal at the Papillon restaurant, complete with local wine and beer, we ventured back into the night. Jesper’s laser pen danced across the sky, pointing out constellations and planets with the precision of a seasoned astronomer. I marveled at the clarity of the night sky, a stark contrast to the light-polluted heavens back home.
The telescopes offered a closer look at celestial wonders like Orion’s Belt, Jupiter, and Saturn. It was a humbling experience, standing beneath the vastness of the universe, feeling both insignificant and profoundly connected to the cosmos. Jesper’s blend of humor and knowledge made the stargazing session both educational and entertaining, leaving me with a newfound appreciation for the night sky.
The Teide by Night experience was a departure from my usual beachside escapades, but it was a journey well worth taking. For anyone seeking a unique adventure that combines natural beauty with cosmic wonder, I can’t recommend it enough. Teide by Night is a must-do for any traveler with a sense of curiosity and a love for the stars.
