A Journey Through the Clouds

Our family adventure to Teide National Park began with a sense of anticipation and excitement. As a museum curator, I am always on the lookout for experiences that blend education with entertainment, and the Teide by Night seemed to promise just that. Our guide, Isabel, greeted us warmly as we boarded the coach, and her enthusiasm for the island was infectious. She shared fascinating facts about the unique landscape of Tenerife, a place where the environmental conditions are said to resemble those of Mars.

Our first stop was a charming café just outside the national park. Despite the bustling atmosphere, the staff was efficient and friendly, serving us delicious cake and coffee. The café also offered local produce, which added a delightful touch to our visit. Isabel’s knowledge of the area was impressive, and she was more than willing to capture the moment with her camera skills.

As we continued our journey, the views became increasingly breathtaking. We paused at several viewing points, each offering a unique perspective of the stunning rock formations and the majestic Mount Teide. Dining Above the Clouds

Our next stop was the highest restaurant in the national park, where we were treated to a delightful meal. The set menu was thoughtfully prepared, and the staff was accommodating to dietary requests. With drinks like wine, orange juice, and water readily available, we felt well taken care of. The restaurant also featured a charming gift shop, offering souvenirs that captured the essence of Teide by Night.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to a vantage point above the clouds. The sky transformed into a canvas of pinks, reds, and purples, creating a surreal atmosphere that felt otherworldly. It was a moment that words could hardly capture, and the photos we took, though beautiful, could never do justice to the experience.

Our driver, Domingo, skillfully navigated the winding roads, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride. His attention to detail, from offering drinks to providing blankets, added a personal touch to the journey. The camaraderie between the tour guides and the local staff was evident, enhancing the overall experience.

A Night Under the Stars

As darkness enveloped the landscape, we embarked on a stargazing adventure that was nothing short of magical. Isabel’s expertise in astronomy was evident as she guided us through the night sky with a laser pointer. The absence of the moon that night allowed us to see a dazzling array of celestial wonders, including multiple satellites, six constellations, the Milky Way, two clusters, a nebula, and even Saturn.

The telescopes provided a closer look at these distant marvels, and Isabel’s storytelling brought the mythology of the stars to life. It was a chilly evening, but the blankets offered by the team kept us warm and comfortable.

Reflecting on the experience, I am grateful for the opportunity to share such a unique adventure with my family. The Teide by Night tour was a perfect blend of education and entertainment, offering insights into the natural world while creating lasting memories. It’s an experience I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Tenerife, and one that will remain etched in our hearts for years to come.
