Mud Volcanoes - This region has been an active mud volcano zone for centuries. The scattered volcanoes create a surreal landscape reminiscent of the moon’s surface. Historically, people believed this area was home to jinns (spirits in Azerbaijani culture). A small trail leads to the mud volcanoes, adding a touch of romance to the majestic scenery. Although leaving this enchanting place is difficult, there is much more to explore along the way.
-
Gobustan Rock Art - Once the information is absorbed, visitors with Azerbaijan Travel International can explore the prehistoric site themselves. The primary legacy left behind is the rock paintings scattered throughout the area. Guests will gain deep historical insights while exploring the territory, viewing petroglyphs, and listening to the guide narrate stories about human evolution. The guide will discuss Homo sapiens’ survival skills, their challenging living conditions, their social hierarchy, and everyday life, providing a deeper understanding of the prehistoric era.
-
Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape - The next stop is a key reason for Gobustan’s global popularity. Hidden from prying eyes is the village of the first Cro-Magnons, untouched by human hands. Initially, guests will visit a modern museum to learn about the lives of our ancestors and the history of these lands.
-
Baku - At this point, the tour reenters the capital, where guests can enjoy a meal at a restaurant in one of Baku’s lovely parks, aptly named Baku Restaurant. A traditional three-course lunch with a cup of delicious tea will rejuvenate tourists for the second half of their journey – The Absheron Peninsula.
-
Ateshgah - Fire Temple - Azerbaijan is known as the land of fire, with historical roots. For centuries, Absheron’s lands were covered with natural flames emerging from the ground. News of this phenomenon spread quickly, and in the first century BC, Hindu Brahmanites and Persian Zoroastrians built a magnificent temple here, naming it Ateshgah.
Azerbaijan has always been at a crossroads, bustling with merchants seeking rest. To accommodate them, a grand caravanserai was built in Absheron. Visitors can learn about the daily lives of those who lived there long ago, the traditions of fire worshippers, and much more.
- Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - Yanardag is one of Azerbaijan’s magical places. For centuries, flames have erupted from the ground, giving the mountain its name (Yanar Dag – “Burning Mountain”). Located near the mountain’s summit, it offers tourists a spectacular view of the surroundings and the fire, providing a truly “out-of-this-world” experience. On this significant note, the Gobustan-Absheron tour concludes naturally, and guests return safely to Baku.
The Gobustan-Absheron tour lasts approximately 9 hours, starting in the morning and concluding in the evening. Although it takes time, by the end of the tour, guests of Azerbaijan Travel International will have a comprehensive understanding of the wonders of Azerbaijan.
