As a seasoned surfer, I’ve spent countless hours riding the waves and soaking up the sun along the coasts of Central America. But every now and then, I crave a different kind of adventure, one that takes me away from the ocean and into the heart of the land. That’s how I found myself in Rancho Quemado, ready to explore the untouched wilderness of Corcovado National Park.
The journey began with a hike through the San Pedrillo Ranger Station, a gateway to the lush, virgin jungle that awaited us. Our guide, Gustavo, was a fountain of knowledge, certified by the Ministry of Tourism of Costa Rica and Corcovado. His passion for the park was infectious, and his keen eyes spotted wildlife that I would have otherwise missed. From the playful monkeys swinging through the trees to the elusive tapirs grazing in the underbrush, every moment was a reminder of the vibrant life that thrives in this untouched paradise.
